THE SERIES: NJCU leads, 5-1. LAST MEETING: December 3, 2012 in Hackettstown, NJ. Centenary won, 52-46. It was the Cyclones’ first win of the season and first-ever win over NJCU. Alnisa Hernaiz had a career-high 20 rebounds and became just the 15th known player in school history to notch 20 rebounds in a single game. She added 10 points and four steals. Ashley Vazquez had 17 points, five assists and four steals. Nicole Collins tallied a game-high 18 points with four assists for the victors. LAST TIME OUT: On Wednesday, NJCU hosted a team from the West Coast for the first time in its history, falling to Redlands (Calif.), 61-50. In defeat, Bria Smith had another strong effort, registering her fifth double-double of the season and seventh effort of double-figure boards, finishing with 16 points (6-14 FG), 10 rebounds, six blocks and four steals in 37 minutes. She had just five blocks in eight games entering the contest; all six of her blocks came in the second half. Ashley Vazquez and Kiana Briggs each scored a dozen. SHE’S BAAACK: Senior Alnisa Hernaiz, who led the NJAC in rebounding last year (9.9 rpg) while averaging 10.0 per contest, made her return to the lineup against Redlands. She totaled five rebounds, four points and two assists in 26 reserve minutes. She enters today’s contest with 599 rebounds in 72 career games—11th in school history (637 would crack Top 10). STILL NJAC LEADING: NJCU continues to lead the NJAC in field goal percentage defense (.337), three-point percentage defense (.217) while listing second in scoring defense (58.6). ASH SEEING DOUBLE: Ashley Vazquez has scored in double figures in 27 of her first 34 career games at NJCU. She already has 441 points as a Gothic Knight.

ABOUT THE OPPOSITION PEAKS AND VALLEYS: Centenary is 2-2 in its last four games. Its two wins have come by 55 and 43 points, respectively, while its losses were by 22 and 29. Today is the Cyclones’ first game in 11 days. LAST TIME OUT: On December 9, the Cyclones lost a road rout to Moravian, 78-49, to snap a two-game winning streak. CC was held to just 23 percent shooting. Moravian set a single-game school record with 22 blocked shots. Mallory George, who leads the team in points (16.1) and rebounds (7.8) this year, scored a team-high 13 in the loss. MISSING HER: Centenary has been without standout Melissa Kukoda since game two of the season. She was averaging 11.5 points per game. She scored 18 in the season opener in 32 minutes but was lost after six minutes against Albright on November 16. MARKING THE LINE: The Cyclones have averaged 16.1 made free throws per game this year; opponents are averaging just 8.4 per outing. ***THE NCAA, ECAC, NEW JERSEY ATHLETIC CONFERENCE AND NEW JERSEY CITY UNIVERSITY PROMOTE GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP BY STUDENT-ATHLETES, COACHES, STAFF AND SPECTATORS.
