Most low-income families in Asia lack access to affordable housing finance. Instead, they must rely on limited, often high-cost informal financing to repair, expand, or improve their homes. Many save for years, stockpiling materials and gradually making improvements, before they can realize significant, positive changes in their living conditions. The Habitat for Humanity Center for Innovation in Shelter and Finance was created to accelerate these changes. The Center is an initiative to facilitate collaboration between public, private, and third sector actors in the market to develop sustainable and innovative housing solutions for the 1.6 billion people worldwide who lack adequate shelter.
