Central Catholic High School
Merit-Based Scholarships (application required) 2016/17 Academic Year For more information contact
[email protected] Central Catholic High School will provide merit-based scholarships beginning with the 2015/16 academic year. These scholarships are available through the generosity of our alumni and friends in honor and memory of those for whom the scholarships are named. The application and criteria for individual scholarships are listed in this booklet and are available on the website. Please review them with you son to determine eligibility. Students may receive only one merit-based scholarship. These scholarships have no bearing on financial assistance for families that completed the PSAS application. Some merit-based awards require demonstration of need but this process is separate from the need-based assistance we offer. Receiving need-based financial assistance has no influence on meritbased awards. Scholarships awarded by the school or the Alumni Association based of High School Placement Test results do not affect the student’s eligibility for these scholarships. All applications for scholarships must be received in the main office before the end of business Friday, December 18, 2015, via email at
[email protected]. Most of these scholarships honor members of the Society of Mary (the Marianists). The gifts that fund these scholarships pay tribute to the individual Brothers in whose names they are presented but memorialize the spirit and vision of Blessed Chaminade, Founder of the Society. Two are given by graduating classes desiring to help qualified students experience the Central Catholic advantage. One scholarship honors parents who placed Catholic education in the Marianist Tradition as a priority for their family. In future years, we hope to add to this list of scholarships. For this first year of the program, we offer ten named scholarships that yield forty-one awards. The amount of each award is found in this booklet. The number of scholarships and awards will increase in future years. The criteria used for the scholarships was established by the donors in conjunction with the administration of Central Catholic. The ultimate goal of the donors is to assist students at Central Catholic while they honor the memory of someone who has touched their life deeply.

During that time he worked to establish a solid academic and financial foundation from which the school could move into the 21st Century and beyond. A Marianist to his core, everything he did extended the vision and work of Blessed Chaminade and the earliest members of the Society who came to San Antonio in 1852 and opened a small school above the blacksmith shop in Cathedral Square that grew into Central Catholic High School.
