he University of Central Oklahoma wrestling team Wednesday hosts Oklahoma City University in Hamilton Field House at 7 p.m. The Bronchos are off to an 8-0 start this season and have climbed to No. 8 in the country in the latest Division II coaches’ poll. UCO has won 15-straight duals dating back to last season. It hasn’t lost a dual since Jan. 16, 2016. Wednesday’s dual lands right in the middle of a busy week for the Bronchos. UCO went to Warrensburg, Mo. on Sunday to take on Central Missouri – it won 37-6. Saturday, the Bronchos will travel to Kearney, Neb. for the UNK Duals. UCO has three nationally ranked wrestlers this season. Josh Lindsey is currently third at 125 pounds, and boasts a 20-4 record. Lindsey is third on the Bronchos with nine falls this season. Greg Wilson is seventh at 197 pounds. Wilson is

18-4 this season and has four wins by fall, and five wins by technical fall. He was nominated for MIAA Wrestler of the Week last week after he won 15-2 over Central Missouri’s Grant Sparks. Caleb Cotter is the third Bronchos ranked individually, and like Lindsey, is third in his class. The heavyweight has been hampered by injury as of late and has not wrestled since winning the Jet Invite on Dec. 11. Cotter is 20-2 this season with a team-high seven wins by tech. fall. Oklahoma City University is ranked sixth in the country in NAIA but comes to Edmond on a bit of a skid. The Stars twice loss last week at the NWCA National Duals.

OCU lost to Baker (Kan.) 24-19 on Jan. 5 before falling to Cumberland (Tenn.) 24-14 later that day. OCU also features a handful of individually ranked wrestlers. Mason Naifeh is ranked 14th at 125 pounds, Matt Landgraff is ranked 10th at 141 pounds, Kristian Holguin-Mendez is ranked eighth at 157 pounds, Ricky McCarty is ranked third at 174 pounds, Derek Sivertsen is ranked

sixth at 184 pounds, Evan Hudson is ranked 12th at 197 pounds, and Bryson McGowan is ranked 13th at heavyweight. The Bronchos have an all-time record of 12-3 against Oklahoma City. UCO won the most recent meeting – a 20-15 clipping last season. This season, the Bronchos faced the Stars individually in various open tournaments in the fall. odd Steidley, a former national champion for Central Oklahoma who went on to win seven state titles as a high school coach in the state, was tabbed to take over as the Bronchos’ head wrestling coach on May 17, 2016. “It’s my dream job,” Steidley said. “It’s the only job I would have left Claremore for. Edmond is a wonderful place to live, UCO is a great institution and we’re excited about coming back to take over the reigns of the wrestling program.” Steidley replaces legendary head coach David James, who led the Bronchos to 12 national championships and 396 dual wins during a 34-year career. “I wouldn’t be where I am today without the influence of David James,” Steidley said. “He had a huge impact on me when I went to school at UCO and a lot of the things I’ve done in coaching I do because of him. I want to continue his legacy. “I guess it’s a new era and I’m excited about it. I feel UCO is the best Division II program in the country and we want to fight for national championships and continue to mold young men into productive citizens.” A prep standout at Tulsa Union High School, Steidley was a Division I qualifier at Utah State before spending his last two seasons at UCO. He went 64-11-2 with the Bronchos from 1986-88, winning the 142-pound national title as a junior and finishing runner-up as a senior. Steidley spent two years as a graduate assistant coach at UCO, helping the Bronchos capture the NAIA team title in 1989 before finishing second in the school’s first year in NCAA Division II in 1990. He served as assistant coach at Clemson in 1990-91 before going to Enid High School as head coach for one year. Steidley led Bristow High School to three Class 3A state championships during a six-year career there and then guided Ponca City High School to four consecu-

tive Class 6A titles from 1998-06. Steidley, who finished with a phenomenal 211-18 career dual record, has been principal at Claremore High School since 2006. Todd and his wife, Kelli, have two children – Erin Delk and Garrett – and one grandson, Loudin.

School Nickname “Bronchos” was the nickname selected for Central Oklahoma in 1922 by Mrs. C.W. Wantland, wife of long-time UCO football coach C.W. Wantland. The name was chosen from a number of suggestions for the name of UCO’s football team and became the nickname for all athletic teams at the school. Mrs. Wantland was made an honorary member of the Letterman’s Club as a result of selecting the nickname, becoming the first woman admitted to that organization.
School Colors Bronze and blue were chosen as Central Oklahoma’s school colors early in the fall of 1895 by school president Edmund Dandridge Murdaugh. The first public display of the bronze and blue was in Guthrie when a student represented UCO in the first oratorical contest ever held in Oklahoma.

he University of Central Oklahoma wrestling team Wednesday hosts Oklahoma City University in Hamilton Field House at 7 p.m. The Bronchos are off to an 8-0 start this season and have climbed to No. 8 in the country in the latest Division II coaches’ poll. UCO has won 15-straight duals dating back to last season. It hasn’t lost a dual since Jan. 16, 2016. Wednesday’s dual lands right in the middle of a busy week for the Bronchos. UCO went to Warrensburg, Mo. on Sunday to take on Central Missouri – it won 37-6. Saturday, the Bronchos will travel to Kearney, Neb. for the UNK Duals. UCO has three nationally ranked wrestlers this season. Josh Lindsey is currently third at 125 pounds, and boasts a 20-4 record. Lindsey is third on the Bronchos with nine falls this season. Greg Wilson is seventh at 197 pounds. Wilson is

18-4 this season and has four wins by fall, and five wins by technical fall. He was nominated for MIAA Wrestler of the Week last week after he won 15-2 over Central Missouri’s Grant Sparks. Caleb Cotter is the third Bronchos ranked individually, and like Lindsey, is third in his class. The heavyweight has been hampered by injury as of late and has not wrestled since winning the Jet Invite on Dec. 11. Cotter is 20-2 this season with a team-high seven wins by tech. fall. Oklahoma City University is ranked sixth in the country in NAIA but comes to Edmond on a bit of a skid. The Stars twice loss last week at the NWCA National Duals.

odd Steidley, a former national champion for Central Oklahoma who went on to win seven state titles as a high school coach in the state, was tabbed to take over as the Bronchos’ head wrestling coach on May 17, 2016. “It’s my dream job,” Steidley said. “It’s the only job I would have left Claremore for. Edmond is a wonderful place to live, UCO is a great institution and we’re excited about coming back to take over the reigns of the wrestling program.” Steidley replaces legendary head coach David James, who led the Bronchos to 12 national championships and 396 dual wins during a 34-year career. “I wouldn’t be where I am today without the influence of David James,” Steidley said. “He had a huge impact on me when I went to school at UCO and a lot of the things I’ve done in coaching I do because of him. I want to continue his legacy. “I guess it’s a new era and I’m excited about it. I feel UCO is the best Division II program in the country and we want to fight for national championships and continue to mold young men into productive citizens.” A prep standout at Tulsa Union High School, Steidley was a Division I qualifier at Utah State before spending his last two seasons at UCO. He went 64-11-2 with the Bronchos from 1986-88, winning the 142-pound national title as a junior and finishing runner-up as a senior. Steidley spent two years as a graduate assistant coach at UCO, helping the Bronchos capture the NAIA team title in 1989 before finishing second in the school’s first year in NCAA Division II in 1990. He served as assistant coach at Clemson in 1990-91 before going to Enid High School as head coach for one year. Steidley led Bristow High School to three Class 3A state championships during a six-year career there and then guided Ponca City High School to four consecu-

tive Class 6A titles from 1998-06. Steidley, who finished with a phenomenal 211-18 career dual record, has been principal at Claremore High School since 2006. Todd and his wife, Kelli, have two children – Erin Delk and Garrett – and one grandson, Loudin.

School Nickname “Bronchos” was the nickname selected for Central Oklahoma in 1922 by Mrs. C.W. Wantland, wife of long-time UCO football coach C.W. Wantland. The name was chosen from a number of suggestions for the name of UCO’s football team and became the nickname for all athletic teams at the school. Mrs. Wantland was made an honorary member of the Letterman’s Club as a result of selecting the nickname, becoming the first woman admitted to that organization.
School Colors Bronze and blue were chosen as Central Oklahoma’s school colors early in the fall of 1895 by school president Edmund Dandridge Murdaugh. The first public display of the bronze and blue was in Guthrie when a student represented UCO in the first oratorical contest ever held in Oklahoma.
