C entral Tow er o f P aine, W est F ace. Fabrizio D efrancesco, Fabio Stedile and I arrived at Base C am p on O ctober 14. A fter several unsuccessful attem pts, stopped by bad w eather, we finally com pleted on N ovem ber 2 the first ascent o f the w est face o f the C entral T ow er o f Paine . The route follow ed a crack w hich starts at the bottom o f the wall and ends at the top. In this w onderful red-colored rock in a dream y landscape , you may still find m any possibilities for new routes. W e w ere clim bing on eight days, bivouacked four tim es on the wall and clim bed 800 vertical m eters. T here was continuous U IAA difficulty o f V III, A3. M ario M anica , C lub A lpino Italiano
