September 2016 A MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Engage is one of The Center for Food Integrity's most impactful programs. And soon, it will become even more accessible. Since 2009, we've taken our Engage training to food and farm organizations and companies across the country to help them more effectively communicate with consumers and customers to build trust using the power of shared values. Terry Fleck Our peer-reviewed and published research shows that connecting through values is three-to-five times more powerful in building trust than simply sharing facts. According to elearningindustry.com 77% of USA companies offer online corporate training to improve the professional development of their employees. So it was obvious to the CFI board of directors that Engage training needed to be available in an online format. Antibiotic resistance is a serious public health concern. Significant research has been done on the use of antibiotics in animal agriculture, but to date it has not been evaluated in a multi-disciplinary context to determine the relative impacts and tradeoffs on sustainability variables like public health, food safety, animal health and well-being, the environment, food security or food affordability. Read more Coalition for Gene Editing in Agriculture The Center for Food Integrity (CFI) announced the formation of the Coalition for Responsible Gene Editing in Agriculture, a partnership of diverse stakeholders committed to building public trust in gene editing for agriculture and food production, earlier this month. BestFoodFacts.org In 2016 CFI received coverage in over 400 media stories that resulted in over 21 million impressions and we still have another quarter left in 2016. To date, CFI Speaker's Bureau has placed 49 presentations at industry events in 2016. A Clear View of Transparency ... How can you use the research? Like many in the food system, members and partners of The Center for Food Integrity (CFI) have noticed consumers' expectation for greater transparency within the food system. Research by CFI in 2013 defined what consumers mean when they say, "I want greater transparency."
