“ma 吗” A particle used at the end of a statement to make a “yes” and “no” type of question. Ask: nǐ shì Sū Fēi ma? Answer: shì de, wǒ shì Sū Fēi. Change the statements into questions:
“bu 不” A particle used before a verb to make a negative statement. Ask: nǐ shì Sū Fēi? Answer: bù, wǒ bú shì Sū Fēi. (* when “bù” is used with a fourth tone, it changes to a second tone) Answer these questions:
nǐ shì xué sheng ma. Sū Fēi shì lǎo shī ma?
