Dear Coaches, Umpires, Parents/Guardians and Players: The Jefferson Softball, Inc. supports the CHARACTER COUNTS program as part of our recreational and Travel softball programs. The attached form has been prepared for all coaches, umpires, parents/guardians, and players. As part of your involvement in the Jefferson Softball, Inc. softball program you should read over the CHARACTER COUNTS guidelines and sign on the appropriate line. Failure or refusal to do so will unfortunately result in removal from Jefferson Softball, Inc. The Mayor, Town Council and Recreational Department have all endorsed these guidelines. The following procedures will be followed when someone has been involved in a violation of CHARACTER COUNTS guidelines: 1. Infraction shall be reported to the Safety Director of Jefferson Softball, Inc. Everyone involved will be asked to fill out a CHARACTER COUNTS incident report within 4 days. This form will be provided by Jefferson Softball, Inc. or by the Recreational Department. 2. Jefferson Softball, Inc. Safety Director will coordinate a meeting with the Jefferson Softball, Inc. Board of Directors to discuss and settle the violation based on the CHARACTER COUNTS guidelines. 3. All parties will be notified of the outcome. WWW.JEFFERSONSOFTBALL.ORG RULES OF CONDUCT By signing this form you agree to adhere to the rules of “Character Counts.’ TRUSTWORTHINESS Promote integrity by being honest, fair and respectful of others. Keep commitments. Notify coach if the athlete is not available. RESPECT Let the coaches’ coach, the umpires ump and the players play. Do not challenge the calls of an umpire during or after a game. Do not publicly criticize or demean coaches, umpires or players. Never verbally or physically abuse coaches, umpires or players. Treat opponents, teammates, umpires and others with respect and courtesy. RESPONSIBILITY Always exercise and demand self-control. Do not lose your temper. Learn the official rules of the sport in which your child participates. Provide a sports environment that is free of drugs, tobacco and alcohol. Use the sporting experience as a means to protect and develop the moral, mental and physical health of athletes. Think before you act. Think about consequences, how your actions today can affect you and others in the future. Take responsibility for the consequences of your choices. Do not blame others for what you did or take credit that does not belong to you. FAIRNESS Teach and model the importance of playing honorably. Support an “everyone plays” philosophy. Insist that the player adhere to both the letter and spirit of the rules. CARING Treat other the way you would want to be treated. Discourage selfishness. Be generous with praise. Care more about the development and overall well being of the athletes than winning. Never intentionally injure any player or engage in reckless behavior. CITIZENSHIP Teach, model and practice the importance of obeying laws and rules as an obligation of citizenship.
