Project Profile: Inspired by Design The Chevy Chase Baptist Church is a contemporary Baptist church located at 5671 Western Avenue NW in Washington, D.C. Founded in 1923, the D.C. Baptist Convention tapped David and Maureen Freshour in the mid-90s to restart the church and provide a new vision for its future. A revived look in terms of the church’s appearance was also in order. More than 50 years old, the windows on the church and rectory needed to be replaced. The windows required ongoing maintenance, such as painting and cleaning, and were not energy efficient.

The Results

The church chose a window that came highly recommended by their contractor. The perfect balance of form and function, Deceuninck’s ICON 7000 Series offers a high-performance window with enhanced structural and thermal capabilities.

In less than one month, 167 windows were installed at the church and 52 windows were installed at the rectory. A white, double-hung, Colonial style was selected for the church, and similarly, a white, double-hung, casement/picture window was used at the rectory. Not only have the windows dramatically enhanced the aesthetic appeal of the church and rectory, the church has experienced a 15-20 percent drop in its utility costs. After five years, Pastor David Freshour indicates that “we are still extremely happy and satisfied with the windows.”
