Marty Sears, quartermaster. Great turnout at the Wednesday Night work session. Couple of things: 1. If you use the coolers bring them back dry and cleaned out to avoid mold. 2. Trailers: If you have a fire on the trailer turn the gas off. The fire will go out. Fire extinguisher is an option but if you use the extinguisher make sure you tell someone and be prepared to clean it up.
Kiwanis is not something you join… was a lot to do and the people who showed up did a great job. THANK YOU!!!
3. If you are towing a grill there is a speed limit. Under 25 miles an hour and slow down for bumps and dips. Otherwise the grill may fall apart.
Rod Kilian is looking for Flippers for the CFD Pancake Breakfast. Also next Tuesday there will be a flipper work session. Folding burlap rags and things. If you are available come to the warehouse and join the fun.
Nick Panopoulos, this Saturday we are feeding 225 Casper Troopers. Time has changed. Cooking time starts at 1:30 and the will start eating at 2:30. Northwest corner of South High School. Every Year Kiwanis sponsors the livestock sale for the Laramie County Fair selling approx. 36 animals. This sale is for the champion reserve animals for various livestock classes. We invite a lot of industry supporters to come out and bid. We generally help get the kids around $100,000. Very beneficial for FFA kids. A Kiwanis club member will be there bidding up the prices. Glendo is considered a dark sky area because there are very few lights within 50 to 60 miles. When the Eclipse happens Glendo should be the darkest anywhere in the US. Glendo also has a 97% chance of clear sky’s at that time of day.
John Rogers gave a happy dollars for the appreciation picnic. It was a wonderful event, food was excellent. Thank you Tim Sheppard for organizing games. John’s grandson was VERY happy to be participating in games with older players.
Kent Drake, Eclipse. Food is being sponsored by the WY Beef Council.
Marty, Tim (and others) went to Glendo and checked out the location, selecting it because of the power we are going to need. Good power source.
WY Beef Council is a marketing arm for beef producers across the state.
YES, there will be medical at the north end of the airport.
They are going to help Kiwanis by paying for some banners for the simi trailer (Jim Autos is donating the semitrailer). They will also print up some menu posters. The marketing slogan is: The Great American Eclipse Burger Beef council is providing us condiments too.
Glendo only has a couple of restaurants so we are going to help with food. Glendo is expecting 75,000 to 125,000 people.
Chuck Tyler also gave a happy dollar to thank everyone who helped set up the appreciation dinner. Also Thank You Kathleen Petersen for staying till the end and making sure everything was taken care of.
Our projected income is $23,000 for serving 4,000 meals. 2000 breakfast and 2000 lunches.
Marty Sears Eclipse Presentation For additional information Glendo has a website for the Eclipse: www.glendoeclipse.com
Jim Marshal announced: Next week the USS Wyoming Crew from Kings Bay Georgia will be in Cheyenne for CFD. Jim is bringing them to Kiwanis Lunch, 7 Sailors and 3 wives.
Park service for the state of WY has decided there is a limit of ppl allowed in the park. Once that limit is reached gates will be closed and the rest of the attendees will be pushed into the town of Glendo.
We were contacted in December of 2016 by Jackie Deal, a Kiwanian from New Mexico. She works for the National Solar Observatory. They are going to Glendo because that is Ground Zero for the US. The Eclipse will start in Oregon and end in South Carolina or Georgia.

path will experience the eclipse for approximately two-and-a-half minutes, while it will be viewable for a lesser duration of time in communities located roughly 30 - 50 miles from the center of totality, but still in the eclipse’s path. Plus, this once-in-alifetime solar eclipse will pass over six Wyoming state parks and historic sites where astronomy experts will be on hand with telescopes to share insights and educational opportunities. With wide-open spaces, the lowest light pollution in the country and abundant public land access—as well as celebratory festivals and events—Wyoming is the perfect destination for viewing the eclipse.
