Advent Calendar for Children of Canterbury United Methodist Church – 2015 As you complete the daily activities during the season of Advent, color the matching space on the house. Each week, ask your parents for jobs to do in order to earn money to donate to our Advent Offering, the United Methodist Children’s Home. Bring your offering to Sunday School each Sunday. Week 1 – Plan ways to earn money for your Advent Offering Box. Sunday, November 29 – Light a candle for the first Sunday of Advent. Attend Sunday School and worship. Pray for children who are being helped by the United Methodist Children’s Home. Monday, November 30 – Read Isaiah 2:1-5. Talk about the hope that Jesus brings us. Tuesday, December 1 – Make a card for someone who needs hope. Wednesday, December 2 – Pray for a world leader. Thursday, December 3 – Spend some quiet time thinking about Jesus and the hope he brings the world. Friday, December 4 – Pray for a family member who needs God’s hope. Saturday, December 5 – Tell someone how they make you feel hopeful. Get your offering box ready to bring to Sunday School tomorrow. Week 2 – Plan ways to earn money for your Advent Offering Box. Sunday, December 6 – Light two candles for the second Sunday of Advent. Attend Sunday School and worship. Pray for children who are being helped by the United Methodist Children’s Home. Monday, December 7 – Read Isaiah 11:1-10. Talk about the love that God shows to us. Tuesday, December 8 – Make a card for someone with whom you want to share God’s love. Wednesday, December 9 – Pray for someone in our church. Thursday, December 10 – Spend some quiet time thinking about Jesus and the love He brought to the world. Friday, December 11 – Pray for a family member who needs God’s love. Saturday, December 12 – Tell someone how they make you feel loved. Get your offering box ready to bring to Sunday School tomorrow. Week 3 – Plan ways to earn money for your Advent Offering Box. Sunday, December 13 – Light three candles for the third Sunday of Advent. Attend Sunday School and worship. Pray for children who are being helped by the United Methodist Children’s Home. Monday, December 14 – Read Luke 1:46b-55. Talk about the joy we get from remembering Jesus’ birth. Tuesday, December 15 – Make a card for someone who needs to hear words of joy. Wednesday, December 16 - Pray for leaders in our city. Thursday, December 17 – Spend some quiet time thinking about Jesus and the love He brought to the world. How joyful is that! Friday, December 18 – Pray for a family member that he or she will experience joy in God’s love. Saturday, December 19 – Thank someone for sharing God’s joy with you. Get your offering box ready to bring to Sunday School tomorrow. Week 4 – Turn in your Advent Offering Box. Pray all week for the children who will have a better home because of your offering. You may turn in your offering box after Christmas if you are out of town today. Sunday, December 20 – Light four candles for the fourth Sunday of Advent. Attend Sunday School and worship. Pray for children who are being helped by the United Methodist Children’s Home. Monday, December 21 – Read Luke 2:1-20. Talk about the peace that Jesus brings as we trust in God’s promises. Tuesday, December 22 – Be especially kind to someone today. Think about how kindness brings peace to the world. Wednesday, December 23 – Pray for someone in our church. Thursday, December 24 – Spend some quiet time thinking about Jesus and the love and peace He brought to the world.
December 25 Christmas – Light four candles and the Christ candle. Celebrate the gift of Christmas with your family.
