Introduction Little Chalfont is home to 4,820 people and provides 1,600 jobs in 59 businesses. Of these businesses, 21 (35.6 per cent) are Buckinghamshire Business First members. There were 3,289 employed people aged 16-74 living in Little Chalfont ward at the 2011 Census, 97 more than the 3,192 recorded in 2001. Over that period the working age population rose 107 to 2,829 while the total population rose 318 to 4,820. The number of households rose by 63 (3.3 per cent) to 1,982. This is a significant percentage increase and places the ward 17th out of all wards in Chiltern. Based on the increase in number of households, the ward ranks 71st out of all wards in Buckinghamshire. The largest companies in Little Chalfont include:
The Entertainer; Wilkins Kennedy LLP; G E Healthcare; The Practice PLC; Citygate Chalfont; Dr Challoners High School for Girls; and Purcon (Consultants) Ltd.
There are 39 Little Chalfont, representing 1.5 per cent of working age residents, including 20 claimants aged 25-49 and five who have been claiming for more than twelve months. Superfast broadband is expected to be available to 96 per cent of premises in the Little Chalfont ward by March 2016 with commercial providers responsible for 66 per cent. The Connected Counties project, run by BBF, deliver the remaining 30 per cent through its interventions in Little Chalfont exchange area. BBF is seeking to deliver an extended superfast footprint via additional funding, adaptation of downstream technology and contract claw-back mechanism. At the time of the 2001 Censusi, of the 2,084 employed residents, 495 people lived and worked in the ward, with the most common destinations by local authority district being:

Industrial structure There are 59 businesses located in Little Chalfont employing 1,600 people. Of these businesses, 49 are micro businesses, employing fewer than 10 people. Little Chalfont is over represented in the Professional, Scientific and Technical sector which accounts for 39.1 per cent of employment in the ward. As a result, the ward is ranked 46th out of all wards based on the high proportion of employment in the sector. Motor trades accounts for 3.8 per cent of employment ranking the ward 1,535 th out of all wards. Finally, Retail accounts for 13.4 per cent of employment and education accounts for 10.7 per cent of employment. Based on the proportion of employment in these sectors the ward is ranked 2,201st and 3,851st respectively. Financial & Insurance accounts for 0.6 per cent of employment ranking the ward 3,758th out of all wards. Wholesale accounts for only 1.2 per cent of employment and Transport & Storage accounts for 1.8 per cent of employment. The ward is ranked 5,862nd and 4,469th out of all wards based on the proportion of employment in these sectors.

The Industrial Strategy and the Plan for Growth
Plan for Growth and the Industrial Strategy set out policies to realise this objective and to rebalance the economy, which include focusing on sectors expected to deliver strong growth. Chiltern -represented in these sectors, particularly aerospace, the information economy and professional and business services. While Little Chalfont provides jobs in these sectors, the industrial strategy sector where the ward delivers the highest share of national employment is Professional & Business Services which accounts for 40.6 per cent of employment, ranking Little Chalfont at 73rd among English wards. The proportions of jobs in Little Chalfont in Industrial Strategy sectors are presented in Table 1.

Labour market At 64.9 per cent of 16-74 year olds, Little Chalfont in the country. Little Chalfont has a proportion of 40.9 per cent of its residents qualified to degree level or higher. Furthermore, 55.7 per cent work in managerial, professional or technical occupations. In Chiltern the wards most similar to Little Chalfont are Farnham Wrecclesham & Rowledge (Waverley), The Hemingfords (Huntingtonshire) and Knowle (Solihull) with 16 of the other 24 wards among the top thousand closest matches. The least similar ward in the district is Ridgeway, one of two wards in Chiltern to rank lower than the 4,000th closest match along with Vale.

Furthermore, as stated previously, the ward has a high level of those educated to degree level or higher and those working in managerial, professional and technical roles ranking in the top quartile for both. Occupational Structure Little Chalfont remunerated occupations, with 55.7 per cent of working residents employed in managerial, professional and technical occupations, ranking in the top quartile nationally for each. In contrast Little Chalfont ranks in the bottom quartile for other occupations, with only 3.2 per cent and 7.8 per cent of working residents employed in process plant & machinery operative and elementary occupations respectively. Deprivation Buckinghamshire has the lowest level of economic deprivation of any Local Enterprise Partnership, with Chiltern having the 13th lowest economic deprivation of all 326 local authority districts in England, behind South Bucks (10th) but ahead of Aylesbury (37th) and Wycombe (69th). Chart 4 demonstrates the concentration of Chiltern least deprived in England with 12 of the 25 wards featuring among the least deprived 10 per cent of all wards in England and only three ranking among the most deprived half of English wards, a stark contrast to the London Borough of Newham where no ward ranks above halfway, highlighting the challenge Chiltern faces to attract resources to tackle deprivation.

Little Chalfont has the 2,276th lowest economic deprivation of the 7,707 wards in England and the 18th least economically deprived of the 25 Chiltern wards. Little Chalfont is the 75th least economically deprived among the 108 ward in Buckinghamshire. The position of Chiltern ds in England is shown in Chart 4 below, with Little Chalfont one of the three third least deprived decile. The wards in Chiltern most closely matching Little Chalfont deprivation profile are presented in Table 3. Nationally, the closest matches are Alton Whitedown (East Hampshire), Bransgrove & Burley (New Forest) and Rowlands Castle (East Hampshire) while Hilltop & Townsend and Amersham-on-the-Hill are the most similar in Chiltern ranking as the 15th and 91st most similar of all English wards. Of the 25 Chiltern wards 15 are among the 1,000 best matches, however Vale is only the 4,119th closest match.

Demography At 41.6 years, Little Chalfont above the 41.3 recorded across Chiltern as well as the county average of 41.0. This makes Little Chalfont one of the older wards in England as suggested by the over-representation of 65+ year olds in Chart 6. In terms of age structure, two of the wards in Chiltern most similar to Little Chalfont are Amersham Town and Gold Hill with average ages of 41.4 and 42.0 respectively. Educational attainment Chiltern is one of the best qualified places in the country, with only 14.8 per cent of residents aged 16 and over holding no qualifications, well below the 22.5 per cent recorded across the country as a whole, while 40.8 per cent hold degree level qualifications, well above the national level of 27.4 per cent. Little Chalfont
population has an ever so slightly higher educational attainment than the y 14.3 per cent having no qualifications and 40.9 per cent educated to degree level or higher. Only 3.0 per cent of Little Chalfont residents are schoolchildren or full-time students aged 16 to 17. This is fairly average in comparison to other wards in Chiltern. presented in Chart 7 below. Little Chalfont Buckinghamshire has the strongest schools performance any LEPiii, with over a quarter of and 88.0 per cent of young people in the county achieving at least NVQ level 2 by 19. Little Chalfont most recent OFSTED reports, which are summarised below.

Little Chalfont Primary School (Key Stage 2) In 2012, 97 per cent of pupils attained Level4 or above in the Key Stage 2 English test and assessment. The result placed the school in the top 20 per cent of all schools. Of these, 97 per cent attained Level 4 or above in reading marking an increase of six per cent. This places the school in the highest 20 per cent of all schools. In writing, 97 per cent of pupils attained Level 4 or above, the result placed the school in the top 20 per cent of all schools. Finally, in maths, 91 per cent of pupils attained Level 4 or above, an increase of eight percentage points since 2011 placing the school in the top 40 per cent of all schools. In 2012, 86 per cent of pupils attained expected progress in English and 94 per cent of pupils attained expected progress in maths. For English, the result placed the school in the lowest 40 per cent of all schools and in maths, the result placed the school in the top 40 per cent of all schools. The attendance rate for the school in 2012 was 96.8 per cent placing the school in the highest 20 per cent of all schools.

7.3 In 2012, 99 per cent of all pupils attained five GCSEs grade A*-C including English and Mathematics, a decrease of one percentage point since 2011 which placed the school in the highest 20 per cent of all schools. In the same year, 100 per cent of pupils attained Grade A*-C in English, this has not changed since 2011 and placed the school in the top 20 per cent of all schools. In maths, 99 per cent of pupils attained grade A*-C, a decrease of one percentage point on the previous year which placed the school in the top 20 per cent of all schools. Finally, in Science, 100 per cent of pupils attained grade A*-C, an increase of one percentage point, the result placed the school in the highest 20 per cent of all schools. In English, 97 per cent of pupils achieved their expected progress, a decrease of three percentage points on 2011 placing the school in the top 20 per cent. In maths, 99 per cent of pupils achieved expected progress, this remains unchanged since 2011 and places the school in the top 20 per cent. The overall attendance rate for the school was 95.4 per cent, this places the school in the top 20 per cent of all schools.
