The event will premiere alongside China International Furniture Fair (CIFF) and will be complemented by a supporting program offering seminars of relevance to trade and sourcing of kitchen furniture and appliances. CKFA will be a product and content driven sourcing event for the Chinese market yet with international outreach through the fact that CIFF’s international visitors are predominantly from Asia. The growing trend for compact kitchens With the systematic combination of kitchen cabinet, kitchen appliances & equipment, the concept of the compact kitchen has now become the fashion in home furnishing throughout China. A compact kitchen provides a more pleasant, scientific and multifunctional kitchen environment and has become an area of rapid innovation. 2008 China Kitchen Furniture & Appliance Fair (CKFA) brings together latest design from leading domestic and international brands to support the prevalent trend of the compact kitchen in China. Industry market outlook in China The overall market view for the domestic market is robust. China’s kitchen furniture market took off at the beginning of the 1990’s and in 2006 it was valued at EUR 900 million in production value. The retail value is estimated at EUR 1.305 billion (based on estimated list price). Industry estimates state growth rate of 30% annually since 2003. This trend will most likely continue for several years to come due to the positive outlook for home furniture consumption among the growing urban Chinese middle class. Kitchen Furniture Market Trends in China Kitchens account for only 6% of the consumption value of home furniture today. With respect to the appliances sector, the Chinese market today absorbs around 16 million refrigerators, 10 million sinks and 4 million kitchen hoods of which 20% are targeted at
the middle to high end sector. It is estimated that in the coming years some 20 million families may aspire to own a kitchen – amounting to an annual demand in the next six to seven years of roughly 3 million kitchen units per annum. The latter equals a total unit increase of 300% from today’s annual volume demand value of 750,000 kitchens in 2006. China Kitchen Furniture Export Trends Chinese exports were practically non-existent in 1992. In 2005 the value had risen to USD 378 million. China Kitchen Furniture Import Trends Chinese imports in 2005 reached a total value of USD 23 million (= EUR 18.5m). Kitchen furniture imports account only for 4% of the total imports for furniture to China. Chinese imports in 2005 almost exclusively come from Germany (70%) and Italy (17%).
