LAP LANE SWIMMING ETIQUETTE Please select a lane based on your speed - slow, medium or fast. If you are unsure, don’t hesitate to ask a lifeguard for assistance. Be aware of the lane pattern and notify the other swimmers that you will be joining them, before you jump in. Three or more swimmers in a lane must swim in a circle, keeping to the right, while passing on the left of the swimmer in front of you. Slower swimmers should swim close to the right lane line, allowing faster swimmers to pass. For your safety, there is a maximum of 5 swimmers per lane. If others are waiting, please limit your time to 30 minutes, so everyone gets a turn. Swimmers may be asked to take as swim test prior to lap swimming. Please follow all lifeguard instructions, as you may be asked, at times, to move into a different lane. Pool Length: 75 Feet (25 Yards) 6 Lanes 72 Laps = 1 Mile Minimum Depth: 4.0 feet Maximum Depth: 6.5 feet Water Temperature: 83 - 84 degrees
SWIMMING POOL RULES AND ETIQUETTE · Children 8 years old and under must be within arms reach of an adult (18 & over) in the water. · Children 9 – 11 years old must have an adult on the pool deck or viewing area. · Children 11 years old and under who are enrolled in a swimming class must not enter the pool until the instructor is ready to teach. · Swim caps must be worn while in the pool. Swimmers must shower with soap before entering the pool. · Running, skipping, pushing, or any kind of horseplay will not be allowed. No diving. No food or drinks of any kind are allowed in or around the pool areas. · Individuals with infections, open sores or cuts, and/or ear/nose discharges will not be allowed to enter the pool. · No one may enter the pool area without an authorized and certified YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard on duty. · All non-swimmers must remain in the shallow area. · No gym shorts, cutoffs or other converted street clothing may be worn as bathing suits. · No one may enter the pool with shoes from the street or sneakers from the gym. All swimmers must enter and leave through locker and shower room entrances. · Inflatable rings, balls or other large pool toys are not allowed in the pool. Instructional swim aids (kick boards/ barbells/ pull buoys/ noodles) are only allowed in the pool when used by a Y swim instructor or lap swimmer. · Band-Aids, bandages, metal hair clips and hairpins must be removed before entering the pool. · A swim diaper with plastic elastic around legs is required for children who are not toilet-trained. · For your safety, we must limit 22 people per lane of reaction to swim at one time. · *Deep End Only rec. is for swimmers only. Non-swimmers are not allowed there. 12+ years only and lifeguards will swim test to allow in the deep end rec. time.
