Cho Oyu and Shisha Pangma, 1988. On page 283 o f AAJ, 1989, it lists an ascent o f Cho O yu, by N oburu Yamada and three other Japanese on N ovem ber 6, 1988. A ctually there were two other Japanese: Teruo Saegusa and A. Yamamoto. A long w ith O. Shim uzu, they had previously, on O ctober 24, 1988, clim bed the norm al route on Shisha Pangm a. T hese ascents were the eighth and ninth 8000ers for Yamada. Tragically, Y amada died in late February on M ount M cK inley.
