As I look back o n our t h r e e years together, I see h o w we've g r o w n t o g e t h e r as a class. W e have faced m a n y obstacles o n t h e r o a d t o s u c c e s s in o u r high s c h o o l y e a r s , b u t n o n e h a v e b e e n l a r g e e n o u g h , if w e p u l l e d t o g e t h e r , t o s t o p u s f r o m being successful. Obviously, our class as a w h o l e has achieved m a n y things academically, athletically and socially. W e ' v e run successful class functions, we've been o n e of t h e t o p classes academically, and our sports teams have played everywhere from our own gym to the Meadowlands. M o r e i m p o r t a n t l y t h o u g h , is a s p i r i t t h a t p r e v a i l s t h r o u g h e a c h m e m b e r of t h e Class of 1 9 8 0 . W e h a v e faced m a n y challenges- save Open Lunch, save Graduation, adjust to a n e w principal, and rebound after t h e setbacks that any class e x p e r i e n c e s . I h o p e t h a t this spirit will a l w a y s live o n w i t h i n e a c h of y o u a n d t h a t y o u m a y call o n all t h e g r e a t m e m o r i e s w h e n e v e r y o u w i s h . As a g r o u p of nearly 6 0 0 , w e will n e v e r be all t o g e t h e r i n t h e s a m e r o o m a g a i n ; b u t a s l o n g a s t h i s s p i r i t lives within us, w e shall never really part. LANCERS SEEK TO EXTEND OUTSTANDING RECORD T h e Lancer baseball squad enjoyed a successful 1 8 - 8 s e a s o n in 1 9 7 9 , highlighted by an 1 1 g a m e winning streak. T h e Lancers reached t h e finals of t h e Greater N e w a r k T o u r n a m e n t , w h e r e t h e y lost t o Columbia 5-4. T h e t e a m also reached t h e sectional semifinals of t h e state t o u r n a m e n t , losing t o t h e e v e n t u a l G r o u p IV c h a m p i o n s h i p t e a m . Linden, 6 - 2 . R e t u r n i n g t o t h i s y e a r ' s s q u a d is 1 s t t e a m a l l c o u n t y outfielder, Scott Parsons. Parsons was also elected 1st t e a m all s t a t e a n d led t h e L a n c e r s in hitting w i t h a .456 average.
