I hope you all will have or have had a wonderful 4th of July celebration. We have had a lot of exciting events happen in the City. We now have our traffic light completed on 300 South; Center Street has been completed except for some landscaping and we have had all the businesses on 100 North and Gateway Drive give us their approval to move forward with our roundabout. We hope to have confirmation from the LDS church soon. We have the engineering about ready to go and hope to have our round-about in place this fall. We have the opportunity for new businesses to come to our community and are excited for the new additions. I encourage you all to keep in mind the 21st or 22nd of September as this will be the dates of our annual turkey dinner with some exciting additions and fun. We at the City hope all is good with you and your families and if we can be of assistance please feel free to call. Sincerely, Mayor Ronald S. Liechty Baseball and softball are both in full swing...we want to thank all of the players, parents and coaches for the continued support of these great programs!
Kickball Registration has started. You can register at the City Office through July 19th. This program is for 3 and 4 year olds. You don’t have to be a resident of Providence to participate in this program, if you have friends or family that live outside of Providence, please let them know about this fun program. If you have questions or for more information please contact Terri Lewis at 435-752-9441.
Message from your City Council: The council meeting at the end of April was cancelled so this report will cover the meeting held on May 8, 2012. There was discussion concerning "light manufacturing" relative to IMDS ( a developer of orthopedic implants and instruments) presently located in Logan and proposing to coming to Providence at a location on Golf Course road in the commercial general district. The Planning Commission is also examining the definition of "light manufacturing" as presently defined in our ordnances. Since IMDS is basically a research and development entity dealing in product development, patent legal services, prototye and regulatory services and not actually involved in the manufacturing process, there will be further study both with planning and council as well as input from citizens. Several council and planning members visited the IMDS facility Monday, 14 May to do a walk-through and observe their facility and process. This is a very high tech operation looking to employ 75 personnel in such categories as engineers, draftsman, machinists, patent attorneys and finance and administration. A discussion on an ordnance (No. 006-2012) amending Providence City Code Title 7 Chapter 7 Parks and City Owned Property by adding Section 9 Special Events was held and determined to continue to the next council meeting. At that time the council will consider reducing some of the wording in the proposed ordnance for simplicity and efficiency. The council passed an amended ordnance (No. 007-2012) Providence City Code Title 6 Chapter 2 Parking Regulations. Council also approved an award from the bids received for upgrading the SCADA system which monitors our water supply. I would encourage all citizens to attend both the council and planning meetings and to become more involved in the decisions facing the city. Don Calderwood, Council Member
Message from Public Works Department We would just like to give you a friendly reminder that all lawn clippings need to be kept out of the gutters and off the streets. Please do not leave or intentionally place your lawn clippings in the gutter or on the streets. If clippings are left in the gutters, they eventually make their way to the storm drain boxes and culverts. This creates a blockage that needs to be removed and has the potential to flood if water is put in the gutters either from storms or irrigation water before the debris can be cleaned out. Any help that you can give the Public Works Department with this is greatly appreciated. Planning Commission Actions: ♦ The Planning Commission recommended to the City Council that cell towers be allowed on City owned property in the Commercial General District on top of or replacing poles that are currently at least 40 feet high and a maximum of 75 feet. ♦ The Planning Commission recommended to the City Council that a request from Dan Cox to allow a road longer than 950 feet in the Sunrise Acres Subdivision
Phase 2 be granted. ♦ The Planning Commission recommended to the City Council that a request from Jeremy Jensen for preliminary plat approval for the Providence Highlands Subdivision Phase 2 be granted. ♦ The Planning Commission is working on amending Providence City Code Title 10, Chapter 1, Section 4 Definitions including but not limited to: Accessory buildings, building: main and business use general, low impact and medium impact.
