Splash Park Design Discussion Kyle Laws Executive November 21, 2017
Background Staff has been meeting with Taft Egan, from Big T Recreation concerning the newly commissioned Splash Park at Loy Blake Park in the new expansion area. We have been working on the final design for the splash park for a couple of months. Last Friday was our most recent meeting and we want to check in with the Council to make sure we are still on the right track. Analysis On Tuesday, at Council Meeting, we will have updated renderings of the splash park design, they are also attached to this report. These will be presented to the Council for review and to discuss the budget for the project. We are really close to finalizing the design so any course corrections should be made now in order to keep with the timeframe we have set. The budget for the project was set at $250,000. We have been working with this budget and will continue to move forward, unless the council sees the need to change it. The total amount budgeted for the Splash Park Project for this year is $350,000. This budget is also to include the restroom facility near the splash park. We are looking at the following timeline: o Beginning of December 2017 – Finalize the design o January 2018 – Order materials and equipment o March – Begin installation o End of May – Final Completion We would like to have the project be completed by the time school gets out, the beginning of June. The opening of the splash park could come with a ribbon cutting ceremony, if the Council desires. Recommendation Staff would like direction from council on the progress made so far and whether course corrections are needed on the budget or design.
