How old should my child be before starting a Clinic?

We recommend that new skaters do not start earlier than age four. Although some children are ready at age 3 1/2, we find that most children will do better by waiting until age 4.

I have a daughter who wants to play...is this the right way to get started?
Pepsi Kids “FUN” Beginner League
Yes. We have Girls entered in all of our Beginner Clinics and each season we have more and more girls playing ice hockey. Girls hockey is a fun and safe sport for your daughter to play. There are a variety of organizations who also have a girls program.
Is this a Learn to Skate or Learn to Play Hockey program? Many of our students have little or NO skating experience. Our Beginner Clinic emphasizes the basics of skating while ensuring that the skaters will have fun while learning. We will introduce hockey pucks into the instruction after a couple of sessions. We will also split the skaters up into groups for the second half of each clinic.
What should my child wear for the clinic? Dress your child in comfortable warm clothing for the clinic. This can include sweatpants and sweatshirt or a light snow-suit. The important thing is that the child is not bundled up “too tight”. Don’t forget to have winter mittens (with fingers) or hockey gloves!
Do we need any equipment?
Starting in Late January this is the perfect NEXT STEP for your beginner skater. For Boys and Girls up to age 10, this organized league will feature continued instruction and an introduction, Half Ice games and a FUN 3 game tournament! There will be no ice conflicts with the Beginner Clinics.
Dippin’ Dots Division 1 & 3 Coming in Late March/Early April we will start our Annual Dippin’ Dots Spring Hockey League. We offer a Beginner Division 1—which is played Half Ice and is very similar to our Pepsi Kids program. We also offer Division 3—for ages 6-9 that is played FULL ice. Which is geared toward the more experienced beginner player.
Skate & Shoot—Practice Ice Time Throughout the year we also offer OPEN Hockey or “Skate & Shoot” sessions for ages 4 thru 11. These are 90 minutes long and provide a good opportunity for extra ice time at a low cost. Parents can also go on the ice during these ice sessions. Your child will need skates and a helmet with a cage to go on the ice but we do have skates and helmets for kids to borrow during the clinic. Also, we start using pucks during week #4 of the clinic, so all skaters should have a stick starting with that week. (Skaters may skate without a stick during the first 2 weeks). Those who have never skated before will most likely need to use a “walker”, so a stick isn’t needed until they’re skating on their own.
CLINICS
Can I go on the ice with my child? We generally ask that parents do not go on the ice. This can serve as a distraction for your child. The rink provides between 3 - 5 highly qualified instructors for any given clinic. (Depending on number of students)

EQUIPMENT NEEDED • Skates and a helmet (certified ice hockey only) with facemask. If needed, the rink will provide these at no charge. You will need to bring gloves (winter mittens can be used) and a stick. •S ticks are available in our Shops for $9.99 and up and are recommended for this program. (Note if you are new to skating you may not need a stick right away. You may use a walker skating-aid instead.) • ALL participants will receive a FREE NEW ERA JERSEY!!
