Clockwise Rotation Relations You will need one-fourth of a sheet of patty paper:  Overlay your piece of patty paper on the coordinate plane shown.  Trace the x- and y-axes and quadrilateral ABCD onto the patty paper. Be sure to label each axis and vertex on the patty paper.  Rotate the patty paper 90° clockwise, making sure the origin on the patty paper remains lined up with the original origin as you rotate. A 90° clockwise rotation will map the positive y-axis of the patty paper onto the positive x-axis of the original coordinate plane.  After rotating, tape the patty paper in position on the coordinate plane. 1. Record the coordinates for each of the vertices of the rotated quadrilateral in the chart below. Figure Preimage

 x, y    ____, ____  Communicating about Mathematics The algebraic representation for a counterclockwise rotation is (x, y )  (-y, x). Describe how a clockwise rotation compares to a counterclockwise rotation.
