Training, Development & Organisational Learning  Satisfy your business needs through the improved skills, knowledge, understanding and awareness of your people.  Improve your own skills, knowledge and prospects through continuing professional development.  Increase corporate achievement through becoming a learning organisation. ‘I am passionate about the coaching and training of individuals and teams in order to improve the business 'bottom line'. It is people who innovate, operate, create, process, commit, engage etc. and therefore it is you and your staff who are potentially your greatest assets. Ironically companies need the agility and flexibility that training and development brings, even more, when times are difficult, - and yet it is the often the first casualty!' I believe the more enlightened companies will come through and prosper via organisational, individual and team learning. Individuals need to own and use every ‘tool’ in the box if they are to prosper these days. Here is outlined the services offered by me as an experienced training and development professional to you, your team and your organisation. I look forward to working with you’ Graham Sykes

Just as this utility knife has a blade for every situation it is important to choose the appropriate development interventions. Training, coaching and consultancy can be ‘tailored’ to suit your organisational needs. Also, please speak to me if you need assistance with IiP SDI or EFQM as I am an experienced practitioner. Coaching and Mentoring are powerful development tools. Three services are offered………………… 1) Coaching and Mentoring – Includes career, business and professional coaching. Give yourself ‘the edge’ over your competitors and cope admirably with today’s business challenges. 2) Train and develop you and/or your team with an extensive program that can be tailored to your needs. The courses offered are outlined in the following pages. 3) Organisation Development via in particular Investors in People (IiP) and European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) assessment. © Graham C. People have very little time to dedicate to their development and therefore training interventions need to be short and effective. The following courses are flexible and can be run in as little as half a day. The inclusive workshop style will encourage engagement and participation and support is offered as needed to assist managers with the transference of the learning to the workplace, perhaps through coaching and mentoring. Appraisal and Performance Review This is in support of Staff Appraisal schemes often already introduced to organisations but rarely used to their full potential. The course allows participants to discuss the benefits of Appraisal and the likely ‘pitfalls’ that may be faced by Appraisers. It includes preparation, the meeting, setting objectives and Personal Development Planning. Assertiveness This short course is designed to help equip you with basic assertiveness skills and to help you develop and apply those skills in a variety of situations. Imagine how much more effective an organisation would be if people were assertive in the true sense, neither aggressive nor submissive but communicating and acting effectively and with integrity. Commerciality This short course outlines some of the main demands on leaders and managers and is suitable for those who are, or aspire to be managers. Questions are asked which can ascertain how truly commercial your business is. Suitable particularly for the public sector where traditionally people have found it difficult to be commercial but are now expected to be more so! Communication Skills Almost every staff survey cites lack of communication as an issue. This workshop is for managers and/or staff who wish to improve their communication skills. The session will explore different methods of

communication (written, verbal and non-verbal), and offer tips on how to use them effectively at work. Also how can an organisation communicate more effectively with its staff to improve staff engagement? Customer Relationship Management (CRM) In this course we explore the relationships that you can build with your customers and you can manage their expectations. It comes as a surprise to many people that CRM is not just Customer Service (although that is part of it) it is in fact the synergy between people, process and machines to maximize the customer experience and our company’s profit. Customer Service It really matters to ensure that customers return and act as your advocates, if your organisation is to survive and prosper. This course explores how our behaviour as well as our processes can influence the bottom line. Dealing with Difficult People and Situations Lots of people, at work, are exposed to difficult behaviour from others. This course provides an opportunity to learn how to deal with it better. Whether it is difficult customers, your colleagues, or even the boss that are causing you grief, then you can learn to deal with them more effectively. Emotional Intelligence (EQ) This course helps equip managers to use their EQ as well as IQ to get the results they need in business. There is strong evidence that the more successful individuals and teams benefit from learning and using Emotional Intelligence. Employee Led Development (ELD) Employee Led Development schemes have been around for many years and can be inexpensive but highly motivating. Often a message is better delivered by a peer rather than an executive. These schemes can © Graham C. Sykes, 9 The Hawthornes, Beighton, Sheffield, S201WA, +44(0)1142480651

include Action Learning sets, Team away days etc. or more ambitiously a company paying for development outside work, which may even include higher education. This can be set up and facilitated with the collaboration of your employees. Equality and Diversity Awareness Awareness of Diversity issues is essential for staff if they are to give the service our customers need and to comply with the Equality Act 2010. There is a moral, legal and commercial imperative to ensure that we meet and exceed the needs of everyone that we come in contact with or serve in our daily activity regardless of their background and mindful of the 9 protected characteristics. First-Time Leadership If you are new to Leadership perhaps a newly appointed Team leader, Supervisor or Manager, or perhaps you aspire to be so, then this course is for you. Leadership skills are clearly a major issue in modern business and your role is a demanding one. This will help you to combine practical skills with managing people and other resources, to meet increasingly demanding operational objectives. Identifying Training Needs You have your operational objectives to meet and you need a team that will help you to do so. How do you determine the best use of your limited resources? Including, mandatory training needs, the role of appraisal, training to meet objectives and skills analysis. Influencing Others This course helps people stop and think about how they are going to influence others to do what they want. This can be useful when presenting a business case or just in the activities associated with everyday work. Induction When a person starts work with you do they receive a planned and structured induction into the post? Are new employees protected as

they should be and are you protected from future litigation as best you can be? Interview Success Many people approach interviews with great fear and trepidation but this course or coaching will help to reduce some of those fears and to give candidates the technique that will greatly increase their chances of success. Investors in People – a Practitioner’s Guide The Investors in People standard has a ‘New Approach’ where organisations cannot only achieve the standard but also have the opportunity to go for bronze, silver or gold. Some organisations even become Champions to encourage others. Use the standard to impress your customers but more importantly to ensure that you get the best from your people’s talent. Leadership Some people claim that leaders are born but evidence suggests that the skills of leadership can be learned and developed. This course looks at widely used models of leadership such as ‘Action–centred leadership’, ‘Management by walking the job’ and the Kouzes-Posner leadership model. Lone Worker Since the disappearance of Suzy Lamplugh in 1986 people have been aware of the need for vigilance when it comes to lone working. This course raises awareness, protecting individuals, managers and organisations. Management Development – ‘The Six Pack’ A unique intervention described at IiP assessment as ‘exemplary’, consisting of six half day workshops, where essential generic management skills are explored. Includes the topics Emotional Intelligence, Change Management, Empowerment, Taking Decisions, Assertiveness (can be tailored to suit your organisation’s needs)

Management Skills Assessment The concept of auditing financial performance is well developed and widely practiced but in many organisations managerial effectiveness is seldom, reviewed in a systematic way. Motivational Techniques ‘Men and women want to do a good job, a creative job and if they are provided with the proper environment, they will do so.’ – Bill Hewlett cofounder of Hewlett-Packard. How can you motivate your staff to fulfill their personal goals as well as to meet organisational needs? Negotiation Whether we recognise it or not we are all professional negotiators. We negotiate often for the things we want, probably every day of our lives. It is important to be skilled in this if you want to achieve your aims in business life as well as in our more social circumstances with family and friends. Personal Presentation Have you ever wondered what others are thinking about you and how you come across to them? This short course asks you to take a look at yourself and how you might be perceived by others, in order to improve your standing at work. Presentation Skills This session will give you the skills to enable you to present effectively to individuals, smaller or larger groups of people. It will introduce the process of preparing yourself, your materials and your information. It will include practical presentation and feedback from other members of the session. Quality Champion Quality problems have a way of multiplying. Issues in one part of the organisation can create issues elsewhere, leading to more problems. Many people in organisations spend a large proportion of their time correcting errors, rectifying, re-doing and apologising. This is about doing the right thing right first time. This introduces organisations to the use of the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) standard as a Total Quality Management (TQM) tool. © Graham C. Skills Deployment Inventory (SDI) A powerful tool, the SDI® (Strength Deployment Inventory®) is a proven, memorable tool for improving team effectiveness and reducing the costs of conflict. Individual values are established and behavioural preferences determined when conflict arises. Understanding our own strengths and how we deploy them can help individual and team performance. Selling with Success Almost everyone in any business these days is involved directly or indirectly in selling of some sort. This course equips you and your people with the ‘tools’ to maximise the potential of the organisation in everyday contact with customers. Stress Management The law requires companies to treat stress the same way as any other health and safety hazard and to identify and mitigate risk. Here we explore the legislative requirements, look at the difference between stress and pressure and interventions for dealing with stress. Time Management This course is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to maximise to best effect, the use of their time and personal energy in the work-day. Trust and Empowerment In the early nineties, empowerment was seen as the management ‘holy grail’. In this new millennium, management gurus are talking about trust. But how do managers strike a balance between trust and control? Give you and your organisation ‘the edge’. Thanks for your consideration.
