Cobb County School District Testing Brief: 2014 End-of-Course Tests (EOCT) Annual Data This brief highlights the annual EOCT results which are a culmination of both the Winter and Spring administrations for 2013-14. End-of-Course testing is mandated by the Georgia Department of Education and assesses student achievement in the designated core courses. Results are used to provide diagnostic data to improve student achievement. The briefing includes data from tests administered to students completing any of the following courses:       

Ninth Literature Composition American Literature Composition Coordinate Algebra Analytical Geometry Biology US History Economics

The End-of-Course Tests assess student mastery of the Georgia Performance Standards in the areas of English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. Scores from the EOCT are counted as 20% of the student’s final grade in all EOCT courses except Economics which is counted at 15%. Student performance on the EOCT is measured with a scale score based on the Georgia Performance Standards. Scale scores range from 200 to 600, where 400 and higher is considered to be meeting standards and scores of 450 to 600 are exceeding standards.

Key Findings Overall, Cobb students outperformed their peers across the state in each EOCT content area. Performance was strongest in Economics where students attained an average scale score of 455. The area with the highest pass rate was American Literature with 95.7% meeting and exceeding standards. Table 1 Ninth Grade Literature/ Composition
