The Lee Flag club awards scheme was launched in Pairc Ui Rinn recently by Coaching Officer Denis Keohane. This is a new initiative that will form part of the Cork GAA Strategic Plan and is being backed by Coiste Oiliuna Chorcai. The premise behind the initiative is to point club activities towards coaching and games development best practice both on and off the field.

The Lee Flag Programme 2010 is a new club awards scheme, under the auspicious of Cork GAA Games Development, the aim of which is to promote best practice in coaching and games development at club level. It is hoped that all clubs will strive to meet the 15 targets indentified as key factors in terms of promoting our games amongst our child and youth players. A fund of €20,000 will be available annually for distribution among clubs who reach each of the targets before December 1st of this year. Of course, the magnificent work already carried out at club level in a wide range of other areas in terms of coaching and providing a programme of games is recognised. However, the criteria below provide a useful range of goals to ensure the further embellishment of such work. Clubs who meet all targets in 2010 will be presented with a Lee Flag for display in their club grounds in 2011. It is envisaged that it will be a symbol of excellence for clubs that obtain it. Furthermore clubs who attain these targets will gain entry to draws for trips to Croke Park, Munster U10 blitzes, Pairc Ui Chaoimh blitzes. It is expected that clubs who strive to meet these targets will benefit hugely in terms of the running of their club both on and off the pitch and will move forward with a clear focus and direction. The 15 targets for 2010 are listed below and further details will be emailed to all clubs. The local GDA will liaise with clubs throughout the year in regard to the various targets Target 1.

Respect Campaign & Code of Best Practice

Please note that the first four targets of the Lee Flag programme must be reached before the end of April, but are in fact issues which most Carbery and Beara clubs have dealt with already, such as the appointment of a coaching officer and the return of the coaching audit forms. I will be in touch regarding the project in the next few days and divisional meetings of club coaching officers will follow. Primary Schools Coaching Programme In response to a previous newsletter, St. Brogans, Newcestown and Kilbrittain have now set up schools coaching programmes, covering a total of seven primary schools, under the new ‘Heads of Agreement’ structure. Meanwhile, plans have been put in place for Kilmacabea to do likewise following the Easter break in their three local schools, while Carbery Rangers also hope to run their annual scheme in the coming weeks. With existing programmes already in place in Clonakilty, Castlehaven and Clann na nGael under James O’Donovan, James McCarthy and Owen Burns, respectively, it is clear that many clubs recognise the value of having a local input in their schools. If your club wishes to set up a programme or have a scheme in place which I am unaware of, please do not hesitate to contact me. Finally, the ‘Heads of Agreement’ document provides a framework in which clubs, schools and coaches make joint commitments in terms of coaching to ensure that best practice prevails and has been circulated previously. Divisional Squads 2010 The Easter break will see camps running across Carbery and Beara in both codes with the first week mainly incorporating coaching and with games following in the second week. The programme as it stands follows on the attached page, beginning with the U14 inter-divisional football competition in Brinny on this Sunday March 28th at 10.30pm. Meanwhile, the U16 inter-divisional football is scheduled for Saturday, April 3rd in Mallow, with the U15 football in Clonakilty on Monday April 5th. ________________________________________ Contact; Kevin O’Donovan, Games Development Administrator Carbery-Beara, Ph. 086-7753567
