CHOWAN UNIVERSITY returns to Time Warner Cable Arena to take on Shaw University in the CIAA Tournament semifinal. The Hawks look to avenge a 6764 road loss against the Lady Bears from th back on January 4 . SHAW UNIVERSITY takes on the Hawks after topping Winston-Salem State University in the quarterfinal round. After a slow start, the Lady Bears regrouped to take a 61-43 victory over the Rams.

The Hawks earned their 20th win of the year on Wednesday in an overtime victory against Bowie State, earning a spot in the semifinals for the second time in program history. NEXT UP The winner of Friday’s game advances to the CIAA Championship. Tip-off is slated for 4:00pm. ALL-CIAA Jade Lee and Mercedes Tapia both earned CIAA All-Rookie recognition with Lee headlining this year’s team as the CIAA Rookie of the Year. Alisha Mobley earned All-CIAA recognition for the third time in her career.

SHAW
PATRICK MASHUDA enters his twelfth season at the helm of the women’s basketball program. Mashuda will rely on eighth returners and six freshmen this season while welcoming first-year assistant coach Dominique Duck. Since taking over the program in 2004, Mashuda has accumulated a 134-167 overall record.
JACQUES CURTIS has been patrolling the Shaw women’s basketball bench for the past 16 seasons. He has guided the Lady Bears to six CIAA Championship titles in the past eight seasons. Prior to taking the reins at Shaw, Curtis serves as the head men’s coach at Savannah State, his alma mater.
LAST TIME OUT The Hawks outlasted Bowie State University 59-57 in overtime win on Wednesday morning. The victory marked the 20th win of the season for the Chowan Blue and White which is a new program record. Additionally the Hawks earned a No. 6 ranking in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region; also a program first.
