Com mmercial de esigns Having already produced a full planting proposal for entire site of the new Beacon Centre for the Blind in Wolverhampton, I was requested to design the courtyard space of the centre’s main building. The brief was to design a space that could be used by all the residents of the centre; people of all ages with a range of disabilities and various degrees of blindness. This was the initial conceptual design presented for approval to the charity who had commissioned the work

Cherry Hinton Infant School – Main Entrance The school buildings are at a lower level than the adjacent road and the front of the school was obscured from the road by a large, neglected cherry tree and disused brick built cycle sheds. There was no obvious entrance for visitors and the only means of entering the school were by uneven steps or the ramp used for vehicular entry into the car park. The area was re re-designed designed to accommodate new steps and a safe pedestrian ramp that was separate from vehicular access. Views were opened up so that the main school entrance was visible from the road.

The mature cherry tree (Prunus cerasifera) was retained and pruned into a more pleasing shape. Planting beds were introduced to soften the landscape and a focal point feature introduced to give the school a much needed sense of arrival for visitors. Main Entrance Doors

Cherry Hinton Infant School - Natureland The School’s pupils were encouraged to be involved at the design stage by asking them to describe and draw their ideal Natureland
A scheme was drawn up incorporating as many of the pupil’s ideas as possible. At construction stage every child was given an opportunity to get involved in planting up their Natureland
Pendragon Community Primary School Pendragon School is set in a landscape that has undulating topography and this was used to good effect to produce exciting features with changes in level for the play area.
The new play area is themed around the school’s ‘dragon’ logo. A competition was launched for pupils to design the colour scheme.
All age category finalists and winners were awarded prizes at a special assembly. The final scheme which will be built, is an amalgamation of four winning entries.
