Community Group Leader Guide Peace of Christ, Thankfulness, & the Word [Colossians 3:15-17] LESSON & DISCUSSION POINTS Primer Question: What’s a time you remember teaching something important to someone else?
This week, we’ll explore the role of every Christian in teaching others the faith
Read Colossians 3:15-17. There appear to be four focuses in this passage – peace, praise, principle, and purpose. Paul begins by calling the Colossians to live at peace with each other. What is his reason for this? What could it look like for Christ’s peace to “rule” in our hearts?
Christians are made into one “body”- that is, the body of Christ. We all are saved by grace, and should be equally humbled from this.
He continues by urging them to be thankful and praise God for everything he has done. Why is gratitude important for Christ followers?
Everything we have is a gift. God has provided for our salvation through Christ, and the right respond on our part is to rejoice, praise him, and have thankful hearts.
The major emphasis of this section is on letting “the word of Christ dwell in you richly.” According to this, what does it mean for Christ’s word to dwell in us individually? Corporately?
Letting Christ’s teaching saturate every part of us – our lives and community
Finally, Paul tells the church to do everything – in word or deed – in the name of Jesus. This means that the purpose of the Christ life is to give glory to God by taking on the nature and character of our Lord. And we do this all with thanks to God, because it is only possible by his grace.

What are the greatest sources of conflict in your life?
Realistically, how could the peace Christ brings change you? Change those situations?
What are things for which you are grateful to God? How can you practice giving thanks to God for these things?
Principle
How can you practice letting the word of Christ make its home in your life?
How can we as a community group let the word of Christ make its home here?
Purpose
What does it look like practically for us to do everything in the name of Jesus? How can this purpose shape how we live on a daily basis?
PRAYER HUDDLES & APPRENTICES Model | There is a strong temptation to feed the flock with platitudes or conventional wisdom. But this is like living on a junk food diet. Instead of this, seek to nourish your fellow brothers and sisters with the food of God’s word as you go through life together. Experience | Encourage your CG to pray for opportunities to share a word or verse from Scripture to encourage fellow believers, your spouse, or a friend each day this week. Have discussion around what you are learning from God’s word. Debrief | Discuss in huddles how this shaped your life / community
