College of Architecture & Environmental Design Cal Poly Construction Management Students Win Top Honors at Regional Competition Cal Poly construction management students earned top honors at the Associated Schools of Construction Competition (ASC) in Reno, Nev. held earlier this month. Seven out of 12 Cal Poly teams placed. Cal Poly won more trophies than any other team from any other university. Cal Poly students won first in the Mechanical category; the Mixed Use, Design Build and Marine Construction teams all placed second; and the Heavy Civil, Concrete, and Risk Management division teams all placed third. A total of 178 teams from 43 universities competed in this year’s competition. Cal Poly has been competing in this event for 28 years. This year, a record 30 percent of construction management students participated in the competition. “The ASC competitions are invaluable to our students’ career development,” said Al Hauck, Construction Management Department Head. “There’s nothing in the country that compares with it. The Reno competition attracts up to 1,400 students. And what do the students get? They further their education; they gain professional development; and they benefit from networking.”
