On October 10, 2017, the MacArthur Band, also known as the Highlander Regiment, went to a marching contest in Clinton, OK. The band warmed up at 4:15 p.m. and marched at 5. “We received best 5A band, first place drum majors, colorguard, drumline, and pit. We also scored higher than every other band there,” said Luke Williams, first chair trumpet. “We were more than prepared. We worked extremely hard during every practice,” said AJ Rowan when asked if the band was ready for contest. Even though the band only performed 2 out of the 3 movements at Samijah Leday, followed by other band members contest, the band stayed focused while during one of their half-time shows. both playing and marching. “I feel like the unexperienced band members like the 8th graders or the freshmen feel more comfortable knowing that we’re doing well,” said Williams. Overall, the band feels that they’ve come a long way since July. They believe they’ll be ready for OSSAA and hopefully get a superior score. Sydney Heinen & Julian Sevier
