CONTOUR LINE DRAWING IN COLOR Unit Objectives: • Explore line variety in a range of drawing techniques • Integrate various color schemes in combination with different drawing mediums • Make creative decisions with composition, materials, and techniques.
DRAWING COMBINATION CHALLENGE:
Create a panel of 3 – 4 square drawings that interpret a single subject in a variety of ways. These drawings will be mounted on black board. You must complete the following tasks using your creative judgment when deciding on combinations of: DRAWING STYLE, COLOR SCHEME, and MATERIAL Possible Drawing Subjects: Natural Items (shells, flowers, leaves, etc); Household items (tools, appliances, lights, etc); Still Life Item(s); Found Objects or photographs of an object; you may use a figure (person) *Work with your teacher to decide on a subject best suited for you! FIND YOUR SUBJECT Consider which object you’d like to explore. You’ll need to have this with you everyday. Intermediate: One object with limited details – light bulb; flower; seashell; teacup; clothespin; etc. Advanced: One object with more details – Small toy; elaborate flower/pinecone/seashell; a photograph of a bicycle; etc. Extra Challenge: Multiple objects or photographs; complex details and contours – Arrangement of still life objects
FOREGROUND vs. BACKGROUND A) BACKGROUND: Use your knowledge of SHAPE & COLOR to design an abstract background design. Use your object as an inspiration for your shape and layout. B) FOREGROUND: Looking carefully at your object, create a contour line drawing on top of your background to create a sense of CONTRAST.
