Six LWML Conventions Held from June 24 through July 22, 2012 Special Two-Page Edition North Dakota– June 24-26 “With Jesus ... Right Where You Are" was the theme for the LWML North Dakota District Convention held in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The theme was woven into all aspects of the weekend where 171 participants attended the convention. District President Sue Corwin finished her term and Paulette Huber was elected to serve for the next four years. A special highlight was LWML President Kay Kreklau, who shared the work of LWML and inspired everyone with her personal stories.
Minnesota North - June 25-27 LWML Minnesota North District President Cheryl Petersen presided over the last district convention of her term. Arriving at Breezy Point, Minnesota, the 356 enlightened convention participants took advantage of convention activities based on the theme “Arise! Shine! Your Light Has Come." Convention delegates elected JoNette Brogaard to serve as the new district president. Chaplain Eric Erkinnen stated, "God puts us where we are needed, not where we want to be."
Iowa West – June 28-30 Lutheran Women in Mission numbering 345, set their sight on Camp Okoboji, in Milford, Iowa, where they traveled for the LWML Iowa West District Convention. District President Adeline Gutz presided over the first convention of her term as events and activities centered around the theme, “The Joy of the Lord is Our Strength.” Gary Thies, of Iowa-based Mission Central, was presented the gift of a purple business suit. Nebraska North – June 29-30 Norfolk, Nebraska, was the site of the LWML Nebraska North Convention. Marianne Slama, District President, presided over her first convention meeting with 315 attendees, who walked together under the encouraging theme, “Beautiful Feet Sharing Good News." A book titled "His Story" was compiled and shared that summarized the events of the last 70 years of the LWML Nebraska North District.
Texas – June 28 – July 1 “Adorn Yourself with God's Word - His Wisdom Our Witness" was the theme explored at the LWML Texas District Convention held in College Station, Texas. District President Kathy Lowman finished her presidential term with a convention attendance of 732. A challenge had been issued at the last convention to double the number of teens attending. This goal was surpassed with a total of 36 teens joining in the activities. Convention delegates welcomed the next district president, Lois Teinert, who they elected to serve for the next four years.
Michigan – July 20-22 Lutheran Women in Mission traveled to Dearborn, Michigan, where 610 enthusiastic attendees saw President Cheri Fish preside over the final convention of her term. Celebrating a theme of "Now Go ... " convention goers contemplated the words of Bible study leader Monique Nunes, who challenged them to "Go and share what you know in your heart. Who is that person who is waiting for you to speak the Good News to them?" Delegates elected Willie Marie Henry as their new president.
