Relevant information • Approx. 3800 Long Term Empty Properties • Approx. 20,000 households on the Housing Register • Strong member will to tackle the issue
Empty Property Strategy 2010-13 • Ratified by Council Sept 2010 • Delivery to date – 2010 – 2011 (Q4) • 89 properties were both brought back into use or amended for New Homes Bonus purposes. – Quarter 1 2011 – 2012 (Q1&2) • 76 properties have been brought back into use.
Tackling Empty Properties • To date the Empty Property Team have engaged with the owners of over 900 Empty Properties • Some examples of what resulted
St Austell • Media interest (appearance on BBC Spotlight) • Improvement Notice Housing Act 2004 • Potential Prosecution • Consideration given to use Compulsory Purchase Order powers 13/01/2012

St Austell • It is our understanding that the owner was subjected to blackmail and as a direct result the freehold was signed over to another party. • The owner has since died and the beneficiaries and the other party are currently fighting ownership through Croydon County Court. • Land Registry are awaiting the court decision.
