USmax provided support in the areas of Network Engineering for the USPTO backbone network.  USmax provided support in the areas of Network Engineering for the USPTO backbone network The services include: • Designed and engineered the network for USPTO’s new campus in Alexandria based on  requirements provided by the stakeholders. q p y •Provided engineering, implementation, and Tier III level support.  •Created and maintained a full life‐cycle methodology in the design and implementation of the USPTO networks. •Developed a detailed implementation plan to facilitate a smooth transition from the legacy network  to the new design. •Engineered the network that spans an 18‐building campus with more than 150 ATM‐attached  communication rooms •The network backbone comprised over 80 ATM switches and fully implemented ATM Forum PNNI,  MPOA cut‐through routing, and redundant LANE services. h h i d d d LANE i •Assisted upgraded from ATM network to a Gigabit Ethernet backbone with switched Fast Ethernet to  the desktop. This upgrade significantly increases the bandwidth available to the desktop, servers, and  backbone. The USPTO network now supports over 12,000 switched Ethernet ports in a data‐intensive imaging  environment and is one of the largest ATM LANs supporting the Federal Government.

Provide engineering support to USPTO Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and Remote Access infrastructure.

DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES PROVIDED

USmax provided PKI Engineering support for USPTO.   USmax provided PKI Engineering support for USPTO PKI Engineering – USmax tasks consisted of three major projects.  •The first is project supported USPTO’s external PKI system, maintaining more than 12,000 X.509 Certificates issued to Patent Attorney’s and external USPTO y customers. This system allows stakeholders  y remote access confidential patent data while maintaining high security.  •The second project implemented an internal PKI system using a Common Access Card (CAC) to control  both physical and logical access to USPTO resources.  •The third major project focused on the cross certification of USPTO’s internal PKI system with the Federal  Government’s PKI Bridge, allowing employees from other Federal, State, Local, and other trusted National  governments to access USPTO resources using their PKI credentials from their employing agency. Remote Access Engineering—USmax supports a number of efforts providing secure remote access to  USPTO resources. These include providing full “Work at Home” support to over 120 Trademark Examiners,  Th i l d idi f ll “W k H ” 120 T d kE i remote access for CIO personnel and contractors who need special access to USPTO systems, and remote  access to specific USPTO partners such as the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) whose  examiners use USPTO’s Web‐based Examiner Search Tool (WEST) to search U.S. Patents. Technologies used  include: IPSEC VPNs SSL VPNs, Citrix, Secure ID and IBM include: IPSEC VPNs, SSL VPNs Citrix Secure ID and IBM’ss WebSphere WebSphere portal software. portal software The support provided by USmax included re‐engineering the Citrix solution on to more robust platforms  running Red Hat Linux. This re‐deployment provided for a stabilized solution and improved system  performance with an increase in user demand.

The services include: •HHS‐OIG •HHS OIG requirements development for the implementation of the email forensics compliance technology. requirements development for the implementation of the email forensics compliance technology •Designed, engineered and implemented the email forensics appliance based on requirements provided by  the stakeholders. •Engineered and configured a solution that requires no software installation on the mail server or on the  work stations for it to be installed work stations for it to be installed. •Configure the solution such that it stores messages in real time in an evidential store which cannot be  tampered with.  The solution indexes the messages at the time of storage, so that if a message needs to be  recovered for an investigation, the message can be located speedily, restored and can be trusted. •Provided extensive testing and support to validate implementation against the requirements. g pp p g q •Provided Tier III support post implementation. Our solution allows HHS‐OIG to be able to carry audited personnel investigatory searches without the HHS‐IT  department being involved.  This allows the departments and business lines within HHS to carry out  investigations in a confidential manner, and not utilize valuable resources within the IT department.   Historically the organization has had to restore back‐up tapes, which can be costly in time and resource. As a further benefit, individual users have access and are able to search and retrieve lost email, and not  involve the IT department in email recovery requests.
