CORRUPTION KILLS

CORRUPTION KILLS.

EXPOSE IT. IT EXPOSE

EVERY YEAR OVER US$1 TRILLION GOES MISSING FROM THE GLOBAL ECONOMY THROUGH BRIBES, DISHONEST DEALS AND TAX EVASION.

What is EXPOSED about? EXPOSED is a global call to action against corruption – greed, secret deals, bribery and abuse of public influence – which impacts poorest people most. It’s not just money lost – corruption kills. It’s predicted illegal tax evasion will be responsible for 5.6 million children dying in developing countries between 2000 and 2015. That’s 1,000 children every day.

We think it is time for us to take action. We will shine a light on corruption, but we will also highlight positive models of good practice across the globe.

That’s a BIG ask. But imagine the meaningful impact we could have if our Call for financial transparency and honesty – backed by prayer – is presented to leaders of the most powerful economies across the world.

The poorest people in India suffer most from paying bribes. The rich don’t mind corruption. They have to pay comparatively small amounts to make the system work in their favour and they aren’t really interested in changing anything. Tehmina Arora, human rights lawyer, Delhi

EXPOSED will:

• e ngage 100 million to consider practical and positive ways to resist corruption. Toolkits will suggest ways to engage such as bribe books, media campaigns and meetings with politicians as well as increased integrity and ethics in business.

• h old 2000 vigils with the poor across the globe. This is a moment to stand with our brothers and sisters – many of them already taking risks to resist corruption. Prayer and action will be centred around public services that fail to deliver to the poorest. • collect 1 million signatures of a Global Call by October 2013, and present millions more at the G20 meeting of the world’s largest economic powers in November 2014: pressing for more open tax regimes and greater transparency in payments to combat bribery and tax avoidance.

Let’s break the barriers of corruption, creating environments where care and development ministries will be able to deliver a more efficient service to the world’s poorest communities.
