Cougars finding a cure

By: Alyssa Brennfoerder

Pink filled the gym as the Sandy Creek Cougar Volleyball team took the floor on October 9th against the Panthers of Fillmore Central. This was the night where the lady cougars made a contribution that would help raise awareness for breast cancer. All of the donations received, were given to the Morrison Cancer Center in Hastings. “It made me proud to be a cougar walking into the gym the night of the Pink Out game and see so many fans and so much pink! Not only were the fans there to support cougar volleyball, but they were also there dressed in pink to support breast cancer awareness month. I think that says a lot about the amazing community we have here at Sandy Creek,” assistant coach Stephanie Hoyt stated. The team designed pinkout t-shirts and sold them to the community and wore them for warm-ups before the game. The kitchen staff generously made special cookies to sell, giving all

the proceeds to the cause. Another way Sandy Creek raised awareness and funds, was with a “boot” donation. Pink boots were placed around the school and anonymous donations were put in them. Throughout the night, with various donations given, the Cougars raised over $1,300. “I know it’s not a lot that we raised, but we just want to help give back and do our part in trying to find a cure,” said head coach Levi Gorsuch. All of the money raised on the 9th, went to the Morrison Cancer Center in Hastings. The team chose the Morrison Cancer Center in Hastings because they know of multiple people in the community that go there for treatments. This was an opportunity for the volleyball team to give back to the comzmunity. “It was great to see all the people coming together for a great cause,” said senior setter Rylee Morris.

Leggings

Leggings are a growing trend in the United States amongst girls and some By: Rylee Morris women. The definition for leggings is tight, form-fitting trousers. Whereas pants are sometimes called trousers, which are usually loose fitting outer garments for the lower part of the body. They are similar correct? So why do some people consider leggings to be a different form of clothing other than pants? Leggings can be worn under dresses, skirts, or with nice sweaters. Leggings can also be a casual pant worn with t-shirts or sweatshirts. They are different kinds to wear on different occasions. The lighter cotton leggings should be worn underneath things, whereas the heavier material leggings can be worn as a pant. Different body types should wear whatever flatters their frame the best. If you don’t want to draw attention to your legs, wearing leggings under a dress would be more your style. If you want to balance out your legs and torso, leggings with a blouse would suffice. Be sure to think about another important thing while wearing leggings, shoes. Leggings are usually worn with winter boots, flats, or even a tennis shoe. You typically want to wear cropped leggings with flats and tennis shoe. Leggings are a very versatile pant that I thoroughly enjoy wearing. They tend to be more practical for the winter time instead of the summer, but leggings are comfortable no matter what the season. They can and should be worn as pants.
