Criminal Investigation Professional, Paraprofessional and Support Positions You’ve built a career based on talent, integrity and dedication. Those same qualities can help America achieve more. The IRS Criminal Investigation (CI) Business Operating Division allows you to use your professional, paraprofessional or support position expertise to help make America a better place — in an exciting environment that will challenge you every day.

Criminal Investigation Supports the IRS Mission The IRS mission is to “Provide America’s taxpayers top quality service by helping them understand and meet their tax responsibilities and by applying the tax law with integrity and fairness to all.” The IRS collects nearly $2 trillion in taxes owed by individuals, businesses, and corporations. Safeguarding our tax system and ensuring a stable source of revenue are vital to the well-being of our nation.

Criminal Investigation’s Mission Criminal Investigation serves the public by investigating potential violations of the Internal Revenue Code and related financial crimes in a manner that fosters confidence in the tax system and compliance with the law. Tax evasion is a serious crime that undermines public confidence in the fairness of the system and erodes voluntary compliance. Criminal Investigation pursues a balanced enforcement program focusing on “core mission” legal source income cases and investigations involving income derived from illegal sources.

Professional, Paraprofessional and Support Positions CI’s diverse financial investigative workforce includes many professional, paraprofessional and support opportunities. Our financial investigative workforce of law enforcement professionals are among the brightest in the nation. Help your nation achieve more while you support our efforts to investigate tax fraud, money laundering and violations of the Bank Secrecy Act. Criminal Investigation is organized in field offices across the United States. The Headquarters is in Washington, D.C. Job opportunities are in many major cities and outlying posts of duty throughout the 50 states and U.S. territories (i.e., Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands and Guam).
