Seventh and Eighth Grade Promotion Requirements PROMOTION COURSE REQUIREMENTS and Transition Process SEVENTH AND EIGHTH GRADE 1.

Sweetwater School District Number One requires that by the end of the eighth grade (8) year, students must successfully complete the following core Courses classes to be promoted to the ninth grade. One semester equals .5 credit and all courses are offered on a semester basis. Two Credits (2.0) 4 semesters Two Credits (2.0) 4 semesters One Credit (1.0) 4 semesters One Credit (1.0) Two Credits (2.0) 4 semesters One-Half Credit (.5) 1 semester

Language Arts Mathematics Social Studies (7th) U.S. History (8th) Science Data Processing Digital Communications Integrated Computer Technology (7th)

One and One-Half (1.5) 2 semesters One-Half (.5) 1 semester

Physical Education Health (7th)

All 7th and 8th grade students must maintain full-time status. Fulltime enrollment is defined as one who has a full seven (7) period schedule of classes.

Should problems become apparent for any individual students, the district will utilize required procedures to consider extenuating circumstances (ie... illness, IEP, etc.) which may warrant adjustment to the above requirements.

Students who, at any time during the 7th or 8th grade year, do not meet requirements of the curriculum shall be recommended for assistance through before/after school programs, student success support classes, summer school, correspondence courses / distance learning (which may be at the student’s expense), Rock Springs Junior High interventions or other options available.

An exit interview Communication with at risk 7th or 8th graders, their parents, and counselor will be scheduled occur for students entering the 8th grade and who are in danger of not earning completing required credits for promotion to 9th grade courses. This meeting communication would will review attempts made during the year to help the student succeed and strategize future efforts to successfully complete all necessary requirements.
