Create Your Own Donation Drive Have fun and be creative as you explore ways you and your group can help the homeless. Challenge your business or organization to see who can donate or create the most items. Challenge offices and classes to compete against each other, with the losers throwing an ice cream party for the winners. Or offer a jean day at work in exchange for a $ amount to be donated to HALO. Below are some examples you can use, or come up with your own ideas. Let us know what you come up with so we can share your idea with others!

HOW CAN MY ORGANIZATION HOST A DONATION DRIVE? Many types of organizations, including businesses, churches, schools, clubs and others, can help support HALO by hosting a Donation Drive. Please read the following information to help you plan your own Donation Drive.
GETTING STARTED: LEADERSHIP PLANNING: ▪ Designate a Donation Drive Coordinator to oversee the Donation Drive. ▪ Form a Donation Drive committee who will be responsible for organizing and promoting your Drive.
REGISTER YOUR DONATION DRIVE WITH HALO: ▪ Fill out the Donation Drive registration form included in the Donation Drive Packet. ▪ Be sure to fill it out completely so that we can better assist you with your Donation Drive. ▪ Email or fax the completed form to Teresa Schevel @ [email protected] or 410-742-4211(fax)
SET SPECIFIC DATES AND GOALS: ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪
Set the official start date for your donation drive. Determine the length of time for your donation drive (typically Donation Drives run 1-3 weeks) Determine the location for your collections that would be most effective in maximizing participation. Create a Theme for your Donation Drive. Use one of the ones provided in your Donation Drive Packet or create your own. ▪ Setting a goal before you get started will give your group something to work towards and will and make your donation drive more effective. Ex: 100 items per class/department Fill 30 boxes of food or other item 100% participation
INFORM THE SCHOOL/ORGANIZATION ABOUT THE NEED FOR HELPING OTHERS: ▪ Make sure your school/organization knows about the needs in your community. It’s not just the homeless or non-working people. ▪ Request a speaker. A HALO representative will be available upon your request to share information about HALO programs. Request for the speaker can be made on the registration form.

Publicity is important when promoting a donation drive. Be sure to inform the entire group, Organization/business about the event. Use materials such as posters & flyers to encourage members to get involved. There are a lot of ways to promote a donation drives within your organization. ~ Publicize in company/school newsletters ~ Place posters in every classroom/department ~ Send flyers home with every student/employee ~ Email/websites
HALO will be happy to provide posters if needed. You can request these items on your registration form.
HOW CAN MY ORGANIZATION HOST A DONATION DRIVE? GENERATE ENTHUSIASM & PARTICIPATION:
▪ Make it fun and simple for everyone to participate. ▪ Challenge classes/departments to see who can raise the most items. ▪ Create fun competitions such as: ~ Schools: make this a class project. ~ Create a “Donation Drive” poster contest. ~ Largest individual donation. ~ Largest group/department donation. ~ Best built food structure. ~ Classroom/department competition. ~ Generate pyramid power! Have teams compete as they build pyramids of food/donations.
GIVE INCENTIVES SUCH AS: ~ ~ ~ ~
Donation drive casual day. Special luncheon/pizza party for all participants. Special luncheon for the winning classroom/department. Front row parking for a month.
ARRANGE COLLECTION & DROP OFF ~ Recruit fellow employees/students and coworkers to box up your donations. ~ Set up a date for the donations to be delivered to HALO. ~ If needed, donations can be picked up. Contact the HALO Office to schedule the pick-up.
