Setting up an iTunes Account

Creating an SHS Student iTunes Account It is strongly recommended that you complete this process using a computer and not an iPad or mobile device. All iTunes accounts must be set up with the SHS username and password provided to you. Do not use other email accounts. Do not use passwords other than the SHS one provided to you. Before beginning this process, you will need:  SHS username and password issued to student  iTunes gift card ($10 - $15 is recommended)  Access to Internet/use of a computer (and iTunes installed on that computer)

To Begin: Click on Create Your Apple ID

1 For “name”, use your student SHS email Ex: [email protected] Double check your spelling before moving on. Typos in your email address will cause verification failure. In the password field, enter the SHS password provided to you; DO NOT use a password other than the one assigned to you. You will need to enter your SHS password twice IMPORTANT!! Use the first name and last name for the student – BUT – enter the birthday of a parent or guardian and NOT the student birthday (to comply with Apple’s age requirements for iTunes accounts)

Complete the security questions (there are 3 questions to set-up) Scroll down to bottom of page. Enter the code shown. Click on Continue

4 Navigate back to the Apple ID site. It will return to the page that you were last working on. [email protected]

Enter the code from the email. Click on “verify” (bottom right side). Once verified, it will bring you to an account confirmation page. Note: the birthday shown will NOT be the student’s but will be that of parent/guardian helping to manage this account.

An option to consider (but not required) is to set-up a “rescue email” on the account using an email address of a parent/guardian. If the security questions ever need to be reset, having a rescue email is helpful. If you want to add a rescue email, click on “Add a Rescue Email” and follow the on-screen guide.

IMPORTANT NOTE: DO NOT ADD A CREDIT CARD TO THIS ACCOUNT. STUDENTS WILL NOT HAVE FULL ACCESS TO THE APPLE STORE WHEN A CREDIT CARD IS POSTED TO THE ACCOUNT. The next steps will guide you to adding an iTunes gift card to the account.
