As the weather gets warmer, students start to wear shorts and cooler clothing, please remember these items must adhere to PISD dress code policy. Shorts more than 5 inches above the knees and dresses more than 3 inches above the knee are not allowed. Measure from the knee cap up, not by arm length. Jeans with holes and exposed skin above the knees are not allowed as well. Tank tops of any kind are not allowed. If your child is out of dress code, a parent will be called for additional clothing. If in doubt, do not wear it!
What they should expect. Talk to your kids about what to expect and how the STAAR test is not that different from regular tests and exams. Remind your child that the STAAR is not that different from any other test they take. If they are doing ok in class, they will probably do ok on STAAR. Sometimes just a reminder that they know the material on the test can calm their nerves. Get plenty of sleep the night before the test. A tired child cannot focus on the test. The room is quiet and that makes them even sleepier. Make sure they get some play time and some exercise around testing time. Their minds need a break after sitting and focusing on a test. This will also help them relax and sleep better at night. Eat breakfast. Food fuels the brain and the body. Get to school early enough to eat breakfast in the cafeteria and relax with friends. Support them with a little praise. Kids need to hear how much you love them and believe in them. Your child is more than a test score. They need to hear that from all of us, often .
