Catch the Spirit at Camp!
Each summer, a few thousand children and youth pack their gear and head for one of our three Western PA Conference camps---Camp Allegheny, Jumonville and Wesley Woods. They may be looking for fun or adventure, but they’ll find much more. Time spent at a Christian camp is transformational for many. They connect with Jesus. We are all called to pass our faith on to others. Sending a child to one of our camps is a wonderful way to get the process started or build on a foundation of spiritual development. Many congregations value our camping ministry so much that they go to great lengths to give children and youth an opportunity to experience camp. Some pay part or all of the cost for children in their church. They raise funds for camperships or help youth raise money to go. Other congregations go the extra mile and provide funds for children and youth in their community or partner with another church to help kids go to camp. Encourage your children, grandchildren or others you know to go to camp. The three camps offer a wide variety of programs for children and youth of all ages-– sports, arts, adventure, horse and pony, Mommy and Me, etc. You can check out what’s offered at each camp and register at wpaumc.org/camping. This year for the first time, campers register with the camp they want to attend, rather than through a central Conference Camping Office. Financial aid that formerly was available through the Camping Office will also be administered by the individual camps. “The decentralization makes it possible for campers’ families to deal with just one office from registration through the time spent at camp,” said Jessica Gamache, Conference camping coordinator. Jessica works with congregations on campership fundraising ideas. Contact her at
