[email protected] ESRI GIS Product Lines • Browser, web and client/server -based solutions – AKA ‘Enterprise’ GIS – for viewing and querying of reconciled and well-formed datasets • ArcGIS Desktop - still the main (power-user) tool used to knock new data into shape and reconcile it with existing datasets
Typical Problem of Loading UKOOA to PolyLineM • Benefits of UKOOA as an interchange format - contains metadata, projection info and projected/unprojected coordinates, plain text format, widely supported by industry-standard software. • Linear Referencing / Dynamic Segmentation is an established tool for the seismic industry for navigational data. • Basic Linear Referencing creation tools in the ESRI ArcToolbox were not suited for converting UKOOA to PolyLineM in a production environment • Linear referencing and route events useful for tying together seismic and location data from disparate sources – digital seismic data and textural data. – Also shot point display
Assessing Current Conversion Methods • Format conversion companies – Will create method for fee and purchase of software
• Consulting/Software companies – Custom code
• ESRI – Some work has been done in Houston office – Requires Data Interoperability extension & custom model(s)
• Oil companies – Developed in-house methods – Conversion were not done very often
• Other seismic companies – Developed in-house methods – Mixed methods – PERL scripts, COTS, etc.
Assessment Results • Lynx tool creates PolyLineM from the conversion of UKOOA p1/90 files as well as seismic navigation data in other text formats • Flexibility for any column aligned text/CSV file with line name, measure (SP), X & Y • Demo – Import UKOOA file to PolyLineM – Shotpoint annotation in ArcMap.

Key Functionality Required for Explorationists and Data Loaders in GIS • • • •
Import/export of various common data types Integration of seismic and well data Improved database querying Easier access to georeferenced images
Import/Export Common data types include • Seismic locations - UKOOA/SEG-P1 • Gridded data – ZMAP de-facto interchange format • Horizon and fault data – XYZ(M) polylines and polygons
Integration of Seismic Data Lynx Seismap custom extension for 2D and 3D seismic uses dynamic segmentation to associate shotpoint ranges with seismic data.

Summary • ArcGIS Desktop for GIS power-users • Linear referencing useful tool for reconciling seismic data • Import UKOOA using Lynx tool - major step to integrating seismic data with the rest of your GIS data.
