OAKLANDS CROSSING GRADE SEPARATION
WORKS NOTIFICATION UPGRADE AND CLOSURE OF PEDESTRIAN/CYCLIST RAIL CROSSINGS From April 2019 As part of the State Government’s Railway Crossing Safety Improvement Program, crossings throughout Adelaide have been identified for review, upgrade or closure based on factors including safety risk profiles, pedestrian and cyclist counts, crossing history and technical data. As part of the Oaklands Crossing Grade Separation project, four of these identified crossings have been selected for upgrade and closure, these include: • Replacement of the Carlton Street/Johnstone Road crossing, with the new pedestrian and cyclist bridge east of the new station (open since December 2018); • Upgrade of the Warradale Railway Station crossing, east of the station; • Upgrade of the Seventh Avenue crossing, west of the Warradale Railway Station; and • Upgrade of the Hove Railway Station Crossing, east of the station. Works to remove the Carlton Street/Johnstone Road crossing will start next month, with final removal to be undertaken in mid-April. Works to upgrade the three remaining crossings will start from early April and take approximately five weeks to complete. The project will have multiple crews working across the areas to ensure the crossings can be upgraded and opened for use as soon as possible. Key activities for crossing upgrades • Set up of temporary fencing within the rail corridor to allow early works to happen whilst the train service is running; • Set up of machinery and traffic management; • Removal of footpaths; • Removal of the existing crossings and trenching works for lighting and audible signals; and • Build new mazeways and install lights, tactiles and swing gates. During the upgrades, the crossings will be closed for public use. For pedestrians and cyclists that use the Hove crossing, there is a crossing further west that will remain open during works. For Seventh Avenue and Warradale Railway Station, the existing underpass at the Warradale Railway Station will remain open. Please note that from mid-April to early May, the Seaford Line will be partially closed to enable the project to connect in the new station and rail corridor. Substitute buses will be available, and the project will provide information on this in the coming weeks.
