Don‛t forget to practice your “Musical Alphabet” forwards and backwards: “A B C D E F G...G F E D C B A”! If your slide is feeling kind of sticky, you may need to wipe it down and put a little oil or cream (whichever you have in your case) on it. You can use a towel or cloth of some sort to wipe it off first, then put a little bit of oil or cream down by the bottom of the slide. Spray a little bit of water on it and move it back and forth and you should be good to go! ● Make sure to start with some work on the mouthpiece. Like we do in class, you should start with some breathing and buzzing through the mouthpiece to get your lips and lungs ready to play! ● Make sure you are lightly holding the slide with your thumb and fingers. You should be able to move the slide with your wrist and by extending your fingers if you need to. The lighter you hold the slide, the easier it will be to move!
● Next, take some time to practice each of the three notes by themselves: ○ D - fourth position (just past the bell) ○ C - sixth position (extend!) ○ Bb - first position (all the way in)
Then you are ready to practice “Hot Cross Buns” with the letters we learned in class:
D C Bb D C Bb Bb Bb Bb C C C C D C Bb
