Dakota Ridge, Green Mountain, Lakewood and Wheat Ridge 8U League Rules General Information 1. 2. 3. 4.

It is the Head Coach’s responsibility to inform assistant coaches and parents of these rules. The Head Coach is responsible for the behavior of their players, coaches and parents. Common sense shall govern play, remember this is an instructional league. Official scores and standings are not kept during league play, but scores will be kept for the end of season tournament (Coach Pitch and Modified Kid Pitch only).

T-Ball – Common Rules and Guidelines 1. 2. 3. 4.

Game times: 1 hour, no new innings may start after the 50 minute mark. Keep us on schedule! Every player will bat and play in the field each inning. Each team will bat entirely though the order each inning. Bases shall be set at 50 feet. The pitching rubber shall be set at 40 feet from the back of home plate. Defensive players shall not cross over an imaginary arc of the same distance until the ball is hit. 5. All normal infield positions will be filled and the remaining players will be dispersed in the outfield at least 20 feet behind the infield players. 2-3 defensive coaches are allowed on the field to help with the positioning of players. 6. Rotate players from infield to outfield and in multiple positions throughout the game (inning to inning is probably easiest) 7. Coaches are encouraged to position their hitters to help with their at bat. Coaches can also be at 1st and 3rd (or all 3 bases at the T-Ball level) to help with base running. 8. A hit must travel 10 feet or more or it is a foul ball. 9. There are no strikeouts. 10. There will be no bunting, leading off, or stealing in any 8U games. 11. The last batter shall “clear the bases”, this will end the half-inning.

General rules for Coach Pitch and Modified Kid Pitch 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9.

Bases shall be set at 60 feet. The pitching rubber will be set at 40 feet from the back of home plate. Defensive players shall not cross over an imaginary arc of the same distance until the ball is hit. All normal infield positions will be filled and the remaining players will be dispersed in the outfield at least 20 feet behind the infield players. 2-3 defensive coaches are allowed on the field to help with the positioning of players. Outs on the bases should be made by infielders and outfielders should be taught to throw the ball in to the infielders or to a cut off person from the infield. Coaches are encouraged to position their hitters to help them during their at bat. Coaches should help with the collection of pitched balls behind home plate. A hit ball that hits the coach will be a dead ball and the player will be awarded a single. There will be no bunting, leading off or stealing in any 8U games. Rotate players from infield to outfield and to different positions. There is no infield fly rule.

Coach Pitch Specific Rules 1. 2. 3.

4. 5. 6. 7. 8.

Game times: 1:15, no new innings may start after the 1:00 mark. Keep us on schedule! The pitching rubber shall be set at 40 feet but coaches should pitch from a distance they are comfortable with. 3040 feet would be the recommendation. Each batter will get to see 7 pitches. They may swing all 7 times if they like. If they put the ball in play then it is played as normal. If they do not get a hit in the 7 pitches they will return to the dugout. If they foul off the 7 th pitch they will continue until they get a hit or swing and miss. This rule can be adjusted early in the season to increase hitter success but an agreement must be reached by the coaches prior to starting the game. Every player will bat and play in the field each inning. Each team will bat entirely though the order each inning. No running on over throws. The last batter will not “clear the bases” unless it is an earned homerun. Treat this at bat like any other. Once the ball is secured by any player in the infield a base runner who is not at least half way to the next base must return to the previous base. For the 1 day tournament the rules will be the same except for batting the entire line up each inning. To keep things fair for the competing teams innings will end once 9 batters have hit or once 3 outs are recorded. Umpires will be provided for the tournament games.

Modified Kid Pitch Specific Rules 1. 2. 3.

Game times: 1:30 or 6 innings, no new innings may start after the 1:15 mark. Keep us on schedule! Pitching rubber will be set 40 feet from the back of home plate. All players will be listed on the line up, not just 9 hitters. All players may play in the field but only the 6 regular infield positions may be filled. All remaining players must be in the outfield at least 20 feet behind the infield players. 4. Players will pitch until they have thrown 4 balls, thrown 3 strikes and the batter is out, or the ball is put into fair play. If 4 balls are thrown then a coach from the batting team will come in and pitch, the strike count will be continued not restarted. Once the batter strikes out or puts the ball in play the coach will come off the field. 5. A coach or parent for the pitching team will call balls and strikes. Strike zones should be discussed by coaches before the game begins. Keep in mind that this is not an easy position to put coaches or parents in so there will be absolutely no disputing strikes and balls. If parents or coaches argue balls and strikes they will be removed from the premises. Outs on the base paths will be called by coaches not the person calling balls and strikes. During the EOY Tournament umpires will be provided since score is being kept at that point). 6. 9 batters or 3 outs per inning. Strike outs count as outs. If there is a 9 th batter they will not “clear the bases” unless it is an earned homerun. This at bat should be played like any other. 7. Only 1 base allowed per overthrow. A second base is not allowed on a second over throw. 8. Once the ball is secured by any player in the infield a base runner who is not at least half way to the next base must return to the previous base. 9. Players hit by a pitch (from an opposing player) are award first base. 10. No pitcher may throw more than 2 innings per game. 11. For the 1 day tournament the 2 innings per game rule shall apply but in addition to that no player may pitch more than 6 innings. Coaches must keep accurate inning counts on all players and be prepared to present them if asked. If a coach is found to have pitched a player more than 6 innings the team will forfeit the current game. The teams can continue the game so the kids are not penalized for the coach’s error but the score will no longer be kept as the outcome of the game has already been decided.
