¤ FUN § Entertain Me GEOSTORM
It’s not the first time Mother Nature plays the villain in a movie, nor will it be the last, but we’ve never seen it in full force like this. Try to imagine every terrifying natural disaster she throws our way, multiply it by 10, and you’ve got Geostorm. And who better to give us a worldwide apocalyptic nightmare that unites all of humanity than the man behind Independence Day, Dean Devlin. Not to mention big-name actors like Gerard Butler, Ed Harris, and Andy Garcia, all with a worthy track record of hero personas. October 20
DANGER OF EXTINCTION
NO MATTER IF YOU’RE A SUPERHUMAN, A VILLAIN, OR A MERE MORTAL FIGHTING FOR THE GOOD OF HUMANITY, THIS FALL, BE READY TO FEEL A RUSH OF SURVIVAL INSTINCTS FROM THE COMFORT OF YOUR SEAT ~ BLADE RUNNER 2049
Ridley Scott’s neo-noir sci-fi left an impression on us back in the ’80s, and while he might not be the man in the director’s chair this time around, as an executive producer, he’ll surely have a say in the sequel. Some 30 years later, the torch has been passed down to two Canadians, from Scott to Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners, Arrival) and from Harrison Ford to Ryan Gosling. But don’t get too disappointed — Ford makes an appearance when LAPD Officer K (Gosling) uncovers a detrimental secret that could destroy the little social structure that’s left in the world and seeks out the reclusive Rick Deckard for help. You’ll have put aside your devotion to the Jedis and tap into your dark side. INHUMANS
Before you roll your eyes at yet another comic-book adaptation, Inhumans is the first to hit the big and small screen. Marvel Television partnered up with IMAX to release the first two episodes in early September before airing the next eight episodes on ABC. Scott Buck, the producer of “Dexter,” “Six Feet Under,” and “Iron Fist,” keeps the focus on the Attilan Royal Family who are forced to escape to Earth after a military coup and figure out a way to save both Inhumans and humans alike. If that’s not enough to pique your interest, it might be worth knowing that “Game of Thrones’” Iwan Rheon (Ramsay Bolton) might be the one stirring the family pot once again. Sep. 1 IMAX, Sep. 29 ABC
