Danville Beautification Committee Minutes October 2, 2017

Members in Attendance: Janis Scott, Lauren Newman, Margaret Levi, Janet Hamner, Wendy White, Jane Brantley, Steve Hunter, Brianna Feistritzer, Earl Coffey. Call to Order at 4:04 by Chair Margaret Levi Previous Meeting Minutes: Minutes approved with no changes or revisions to be made. Maintenance Contract: Earl Coffey reported that crews have transitioned into fall maintenance schedule, which includes some pruning of shrubs, removal of annuals from flower beds, and hanging baskets. In the next Beautification Committee meeting a decision needs to be made on renewing or reposting the maintenance contract for 2018. Flower Subcommittee: Janet Hamner presented on behalf of the subcommittee and informed that she had met with Joanna Kirby, a butterfly garden expert, on new plant material for next year. The material itself will need approval before next meeting. Alexis will have the sign put up in the Bee and Butterfly Garden. The dedication date for the Monarch Way Station is still to be determined. Tree Subcommittee: Jane Brantley provided the updates for Arbor Day celebration set for October 21, 2017. We are still in need of food truck options, and Brianna Feistritzer volunteered to contact The Hub first to see if they would like to participate. Earl Coffey has volunteered to bring the water truck again this year. On October 9, 2017, the City Commission will present Alexis with a proclamation to recognize Arbor Day. The owner of McDaniel Wealth Management on Main St. has expressed his issues and concerns with the fruiting Ginkgo tree right out front of his office door. The City has currently been sending a crew each morning to collect the fruit and spray the walk. In regards to this, Janet Hamner made a motion to recommend that the city have the tree cut down, Jane Brantley seconded that motion, and the motion was approved. A draft of the Heritage Tree Ordinance will be sent by Jane Brantley to City Manager Ron Scott for further approval. A Heritage Tree database is also being discussed to help locate and identify potential Heritage Trees in Boyle County. Old/Other Business- New banners are being ordered for Christmas and will be a reprint of the original Peace and Joy banners. Meeting Adjourned- 4:53
