2017-18 PARENT/PLAYER GUIDE: Thank you for allowing your son/daughter to participate in our basketball program. This information packet will answer the majority of questions about the program. LEVEL OF PLAY: This is not a recreational basketball program, but one focused on providing a highly competitive opportunity to play basketball at the middle school level. Our coaches work hard to develop skills during practice which will translate to game play and playing time, but due to the competitive nature of this program, be aware that not all players will earn equal playing time during competition. Our program goals are to develop the fundamental skills and game practices necessary to compete at the high school level. REQUIRED FORMS: The following forms are required for your player to be certified by CCJBC to participate in the league. All of the information listed below must be turned into your team coordinator/parent by the designated date. o Copy of Birth Certificate/Passport You do NOT need to provide a copy if your child was CCJBC certified last year o Proof of Residency in the School District (ie: utility bill with address) o Fall Grade Report or Report card or documentation from the school showing enrollment Failure to provide these items by this date may result in your child not being able to participate. FINANCIAL REQUIREMENTS: The 2017-18 Cost to EACH PLAYER is: $350 Funding of our program is through parents paying participation fees. We get no money from the school. All coaches are chosen volunteers – they are not paid coaches. None of the fees for this program go to coaches or directors. The funds pay for the following expenses required to run the program: The CCJBC association fees (the governing body of this league, see CCJBC.com for details), insurance costs, uniforms, equipment, gym rental fees, game officials, tournament entry fees, practice uniforms, and shooting jerseys . The shooting jersey’s and practice uniform are your child’s to keep at the end of the season. All funds paid are allocated directly to the cost of your child’s participation in the Jr. Wildcats basketball program. Please be aware all tournaments we attend charge admission at the gate. Many schools will also be charging admission for regular season games this year. No uniform will be issued and players will not be permitted to play in games until all fees are paid in full. If a player chooses to quit the team or is injured please be aware that fees are non-refundable after the first tournament is played.
PRACTICES: Gym availability is very limited and we only have certain gym times open to our teams for practice. We do our best to utilize this time wisely and make sure all teams have access to equal practice time. In general, practice times will range anywhere from 4:30-9 pm Monday – Friday. Some Saturday and Sunday practice times may be scheduled. Coaches will announce practice times to their players each week. We do our best to keep times and days as consistent as possible based on availability. It is very important in our limited practice times to have players and coaches focused on building unity and improving on the fundamentals of basketball. Therefore, practices may be closed at the coach and directors discretion if spectators create distractions. Players should be dropped off 5 to 10 minutes before the scheduled start time. All players will remain in the lobby until the coaches open the gym doors. Players must be picked up exactly at the scheduled ending time of practice. Our coaches in this program are committed to ending practice on time. No players can stay after school unless they have a 4:30 practice time; they must leave campus and return at their practice time. This is a Cobb County requirement. GAMES: Your child will be required to commit to a game season starting with tournaments in early October through the beginning to end of February (based on playoff schedule). Each team will play in several tournaments throughout the season. Tournament schedules typically do no come out until a few days prior to the start of the tournament. Team coordinators/parents will get the information to you as quickly as possible, but be aware they are only able to get it to you as quickly as they receive it from the sponsoring tournament. The regular season schedule starts in mid-November and runs through the end of January. The game schedule and end of season tournament schedule will be posted on the CCJBC website.CCJBC.SIPlay.com Each coach will set the required player arrival time for games. Please have your child there as requested. You are responsible to either transport or to set up transportation which allows your child to be at warm-ups and games on time. Please communicate with your coach and/or your team parent/coordinator if you need assistance with transportation to and from games. PARENT AND PLAYER CONDUCT: CCJBC has a Zero Tolerance Policy as described on the home page of their website: CCJBC.SIPlay.com Please read and familiarize yourself with the penalties set by the league for poor behavior and sportsmanship of players and parents. The following behaviors are expected by the league and/or Jr. Wildcats program: o Parents: Encourage and support your team. No derogatory remarks to opposing players, coaches or teams. No personal or derogatory remarks directed at Officials, no loud or continuous harassment of Officials. Automatic zero tolerance for confronting Officials - any physical contact with Officials will involve law enforcement. o Players: Do not engage in any form of derogatory comments, “trash talking,” foul language, or taunting, regardless of the score. Do not engage in “fighting,” as this could cause your ejection for one or more games.
Do not leave your bench, and encourage all other players to stay on the bench if any disruption occurs. Shake hands with opposing coach before the game and with opposing players and coaches after the game, demonstrating grace in winning and dignity in losing.
Parents: o Your main job is to support and cheer for your player and their teammates. Please be aware that you are responsible for educating anyone else who may be there in support of your child of these expectations. o If you need to discuss anything with your coach concerning team philosophy or playing time, please observe the 24 hour rule. By waiting 24 hours to discuss these things you allow your coach and yourself time to cool down and discuss the situation in a non-emotional manner. o Remember your coaches are volunteers and are freely giving of their time and talent to help your player improve. Be respectful and make an appointment either via email or text to set up a time to speak if necessary. Players: o Your job is to work hard and show up ready to play whether in practice or a game. o Be respectful of your coaches, teammates and officials, as well as toward your competition. o If you have a question or concern, request a time to talk to your coach to discuss. o Remember your behavior on and off the court is a reflection of you, your team and the entire Jr. Wildcats program. Carry yourself in a manner which positively impacts you and those around you. o MAINTAIN YOUR GRADES AND KEEP UP WITH SCHOOLWORK. Maintaining good grades is a requirement for participation on this team. Coaches will review grades when they come out. o Be prepared and on time for practice and games with all proper gear and a proper attitude.
