DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION Twin Falls Chapter September 2010
Greetings Daughters, The summer fun is now a remembrance. We have had our Summer Social at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bud Williams, the guests were numerous, and a chance to visit with other members was so nice (see back page of this newsletter). And now the month of September has come into view. If you did not receive the new supplement to our annual program book at the Summer Social, it is being included in this mailing to you. I am also including the proposed budget, which we will discuss at the October meeting. The September meeting will be hosted by Twin Falls Chapter, with Wyeth Chapter (Pocatello) joining us. It will be held Saturday, Sept. 25, noon, at Canyon Crest Event Center, Trailside Room. All lunches are $15, including beverage, tax and tip. Menu selections are enclosed. Please return the form to Diane Greene or Lois Rohay in advance. You can enclose your check too, or bring it to the meeting. We do need to know as soon as possible if you plan to attend, so we can get an approximate count. We need to make sure the room will be big enough to hold us. This meeting will be to hear the report of our State Regent Diane Manweiler. She will bring us up to date on state activities as well as her attendance at Continental Congress in Washington, DC in July this year. There will be news of the National President General. There will also be an opportunity for both chapters to give brief reports on summer activities and plans for the upcoming year. For us, Constitution Week (September 17-23) will take place before the joint meeting. Posters will be placed in libraries and schools, so contact the regent if you can assist. Finally, a reminder that dues are due. We set a deadline of November 1, but if you can send them earlier, that would be a tremendous help to our treasurer who must send in our money and forms. And it would eliminate the need to make phone calls to remind members to pay their dues. Along with dues, we are required to collect $6 per member during each President General’s threeyear term to support the President General’s Project. In the past we have spread this out over the three-year term by adding $2 to the dues each year. However, this requires more effort to track and sometimes has resulted in the chapter needing to pick up the cost for members who have resigned or transferred. So this time we would like to collect the total $6 in this first year and then the amount owed will go down in the next two years. Dues (National $30, State $13, Chapter $12) PG’s Project (one-time 3 yr) Total
$55.00 6.00 $6l.00
Send your check payable to Twin Falls Chapter DAR to Susan Harris, 466 Pace Dr., Twin Falls, 83301-7577 or bring it to the next meeting. Loyally, Lois Rohay, Chapter Regent
SUMMER ACTIVITIES FLAG PROGRAM
SUMMER SOCIAL
Our Flag Chairman Susan Harris arranged a wonderful program for us on July 27. We visited the display of eight historical flags set up during the month of July at the First Presbyterian Church in downtown Twin Falls. Susan described the history of each flag to us, and photos were taken to share this information with other members who could not attend.
Thanks go out to Maureen and Bud Williams for hosting our summer social on August 18. They barbecued trout and hot dogs, and members contributed salads, desserts and other side dishes. Everything was delicious! We had a great time visiting, and it was so nice to see some HODARs and children there. Even the weather cooperated this year — it was perfect!

STATE BOARD MEETING On August 21, Chapter Regent Lois Rohay represented us at the ISSDAR Board of Management meeting, and Diane Greene attended in her role as State Corresponding Secretary. Lots of business was discussed — our state’s upcoming ad in the National newsletter, proposed bylaws changes, our state’s responsibility to host the Northwest Breakfast at the next Continental Congress, and more — and this will be presented in more detail at a chapter meeting. There was also an opportunity the previous day to tour the state genealogical library in Boise. Very interesting! Lois Rohay and Melinda Anderson
