Dear Colleague,

T 0121 556 1351 F 0121 506 7833 W www.rsaacademy.org

Thank you for your interest in the Leadership (English) vacancy at the RSA Academy – I hope the following information will be helpful to you in choosing to apply. The Academy opened in September 2008, having taken over from the predecessor school, Willingsworth High. Our building is a £32 million new build that has been open for 3 years. We currently have 1100 students on roll aged 11-19. Our students are very positive about the Academy and the experiences they have access to and we have transformed our reputation within the community resulting in oversubscription in Year 7. Our staff are a dedicated and committed team of professionals who help to create a very positive, motivating and supportive culture and ethos within the Academy, which is very refreshing indeed and has impacted on the attainment and achievement of all our students: 5 A*-C is 99% and 5A*-C including English and Maths has risen significantly over the past 5 years. Our focus is the development of Opening Minds, which we will deliver in all year groups throughout the Academy. Our motto “Transforming learning, transforming lives” is, therefore, something that we are fully committed to, both from a curriculum innovation perspective and also the impact of this in re-energising the community and regeneration of the local area. Everything we do inside the Academy must have impact outside. We moved into our new facility in August 2010, which further enhances the work we are engaged in and our achievements. The new building is the first ever to be designed for Opening Minds – something else that is unique! The Academy is a professionally challenging and fulfilling place to work – it is not one based on hierarchy and complex management structures. Our structure is relatively flat and determined by two career development routes – either your focus is as a leader of people or you are focused on becoming a Lead Practitioner in the classroom. All teachers, therefore, have specific responsibilities negotiated with them rather than pre-defined, traditional management roles. The purpose of this is to offer you an experience to continue to develop your practice within an innovative and supportive culture without having to resort to management posts to increase your salary, or alternatively, develop your leadership skills with teams of people across schools or the Academy, rather than managing a subject area. As such, we are looking to recruit a highly motivated and first rate practitioner to join us. The flexibilities over responsibilities and areas for development, coupled with our own salary and bonus scheme, and our focus on meaningful innovation make this one of the most exciting opportunities in education today. Having read through the information pack, should you choose to apply then I look forward to receiving your application and meeting you in due course. Yours sincerely,
