10 years at 795 1600 Road Delta Christian Church of Christ has been erecting buildings a long time. The church was originally organized on March 4, 1906. In 1907, the church erected a frame building on Eaton Avenue, and a brick building in 1909. The church existed for 14 years, but disbanded in 1920. In 1938, the church was reorganized under the leadership of Pastor Erskine Scates Sr. The old building on Eaton Avenue was repurchased and services were held there until a new building was erected at the cor-
ner of 7th and Howard streets in 1948. An addition to that building was erected in 1956 and a parsonage purchased in 1963. In 1994, a second addition was made to the building on Howard Street. Gleaners’ October offering benefits Haven House The primary purpose of Gleaners women’s group at DCC is to support missionaries through correspondence, prayers and financial gifts. Each October the Gleaners invite the entire DCC family to participate with them in a spe-
cial offering, with the money collected being given to one particular mission. This year’s donations will be given to Haven House, a faith-based organization that offers a transitional living program for individuals and
families who are working toward self-sufficiency. Haven House provides a stable home for up to 20 families who, with help, will have hope for a fresh start. Look for the pink pig in the hallway to drop off your donations.
Haven House is located in Olathe.

Many volunteers helped make The Journey conference a success.
The multi-purpose room was transformed into an adventurefilled jungle for The Journey conference.
The Journey Conference “Even after so many years of ministry and watching God work, I am still in awe of all that He is able to accomplish.”
The Journey is all about people helping parents raise children who will love the Lord their God for a lifetime.
The following is reprinted from a “fallout” in the Sunday, October 11, bulletin (just in case you missed it). If you were around this last weekend, you perhaps noticed that things looked very different in church. Our kickoff for The Journey took place over the weekend and it was an amazing thing to watch unfold. Even after so many years of ministry and watching God work, I am still in awe of all that
He is able to accomplish. Remember about a month ago when Eric spoke at church and challenged us all to be a part of this Journey? He encouraged us to each take an orange marble to remind us of the commitment to help raise “our” kids to know Jesus. Over 140 people have made that commitment since then. I just wanted to take the moment to thank the people who were able to
show that commitment while serving at The Journey. If you see them around, be sure and thank them for all they have done for our church family. If you didn’t get a marble yet and you would like to be able to make that commitment and be reminded to pray, serve, mentor and be a part of the family ministry, you can pick up your orange marble at The Intersection desk.

10 years (from page 1) that year, interior framing began, and in June 2004 drywall was being hung. Much of this work was done by volunteers. Many, many hours were spent designing, installing the HVAC systems, screwing drywall to red iron, taping, mudding and sanding, pulling electrical wire, plumbing, painting, staining, decorating, laying and hanging carpet, and cleaning. During construction of the new facility the church met for services at Delta High School. By January 2005, the
funds which had been committed to the building were dwindling and slowing progress. The elders made the decision to borrow the necessary money to complete the work quickly.
The loan was for a little over $500,000, which also included $200,000 for paving the parking lot — an expense that came sooner than anticipated due to city code. Since the building materials

cost around $1.2 million, that means the DCC family covered over $700,000 before the loan. It was all driven by the vision of a facility in which the DCC family could minister to one another and the Delta community. The opening worship service of Delta Christian Church at 795 1600 Road took place on October 2, 2005. So much has occurred in these past 10 years — some of it sad, much of it happy — all to the glory of God and his Kingdom.

Ray of Sunshine group is forming Are you a shut-in, just recuperating from an illness, grieving or would just like to visit with another Christian? We are forming a group to bring a ray of sunshine to those who are lonely or need a little help. And if you know of someone who would like a visit, please let us know. This is also a call for those who have time to pray, visit, telephone or do a small chore
for someone. You can take an hour a week, every other week or just once a month — whatever you feel called to do. You can ask to be a special friend to just one person or visit someone different each time. Call or email Dani Tupper if you would like a visit or if you are interested in being one of the rays of sunshine. 874-3088 or

Our Money and the Kingdom You have probably heard, from time to time, that our offerings are not quite covering our bills. If you follow the week-toweek updates you see in the bulletin, you should know they don’t always paint an accurate picture: sometimes the offering exceeds the weekly need; sometimes it comes up short. Our expenses, however, remain relatively the same and are averaged over the 52 weeks of the year. Offerings, of course, vary. This proposed budget for the 2015/2016 year runs from September through August and is
based, in part, on past years’ offerings. A large factor in our current budget is our building loan. The loan was for $500,000 and the remaining balance is a little over $300,000. (See building story on page 1.) We are making the $60,000 annual repayment in quarterly chunks — $15,000 every quarter. Each week, a portion of the offering is set aside toward that payment. Tony Bohling says, “Getting out from under the loan would mean $60,000 that could be used for real ministry work each year. That's
exciting to me.” The percentage designated for salaries may appear high. In reality, our staff is definitely not overpaid. We have a large staff: four excellent full-time ministers and an
excellent part-time administrative assistant. Remember Paul’s directive in Galatians 6:6: “Let the one who is taught the word share all good things with the one who teaches.”
